Why's it so controversial? Is it real?

Its controversial like all gnostic books are. It's real in the sense that it is a book written, but eh, it has a lot wrong when it comes to the actual workings of the world

The big thing people focus on is the fallen angels knocking up human chicks and producing giants. That and the fact that one of them, Samyaza, shows up in UFO lore means that the ancient aliens guys are all over it as some kind of garbled account of ET genetic experiments on early humanity- or, conversely, proof that UFO abductions are all just Satan in cosplay.
Also, it was preserved by the Beta Israel, who are a bunch of black jews in Ethiopia. That's gonna trigger the fuck out of /pol/.

Well you have to keep in mind that its more metaphor than real, but uses old Hebrew idioms which, if you don't know will seem like a straight up "this is what happened". Add to that the bias of the author, and well you have quite the distorted lens.

I wish the entire bible were like 1 Enoch and the testament of solomon. It's just so cool hearing first account of angels, demons and celestial beings and their struggles with humankind. It reminded me of Greek and Norse myths. Such a shame that the final print of the sacred book is a boring slog altogether.

Sure good question! So, the world works based on verifiable physical laws and this book is full of shit that has no bearing in reality. Hope that helps.

you can find out how it works here without the book of enoch but its more canon than the bible or torah.
the holy books are to show you how you yourself function in this reality.

It’s a good question. Here’s what we can say:

It was written to address what was described in Gen 6:1-5, so it’s at least “in response” to that (as opposed to making shit up out of whole cloth).

It’s also directly referenced in both Jude and Peter, so THEY thought it was “real.”

Several things written in Revelation also make a helluva lot more sense if you assume John also believed the general Enochian narrative (the Sons of God in the abyss, etc). The Legion of demons wanting Jesus to cast them into pigs instead of sending them to the “Abyss” also makes more sense.

Several early church fathers wanted it canonized.

It’s an interesting book, for sure.
