the best 2 candidates are the Brain and the Heart. Growing up I was taught it was in the heart, but my question with that is if that's true then how come people get heart transplants and artificial hearts their identity stays fully intact they're the same exact person and live on for multiple years even decades?

Your problem is that you have materialist presuppositions. Your soul is the structure of your specific consciousness, meaning that your body is inside your soul, not the other way around. The world you inhabit is the projections of your soul.
Your spirit, astral body, subtle body, soul vehichle, prana or whatever you want to call it does permiate your actual body, as a sort of mediator between your (fundamentall) timeless, spaceless soul and your physical body.

BTW: Yes, because you seem to essentially be conceiving of the soul in materialist terms. If the soul can be localized within a physical container such as a specific bodily organ it can't be immaterial. If the soul just is some pseudo-physical substance within the body you might as well just ditch the idea all-together and identify the soul with your neurons. It would serve the same purpose.
