Are there any good books on how to meditate effectively? I want to have greater control over my emotions and the ability to be calm during stressful situations.

I have been doing two types so far for an hour a day:

Lying down and scanning my body and sitting cross-legged while trying to empty my mind.

I have a somewhat hard time clearing my mind: do I shut thoughts out or let them pass without resisting them? Sometimes if i dont resist them they distract me then i have to refocus.

book recommendations, advice and direction is much appreciated. Thanks.

Like always Yoga Sutras of Patañjali and the Bhagavad Gita
There are more but i should only recommend what i've read...
Emptying the mind is not it. Emptying it of distractions sure, but meditation is to think of something. Or rather someone
Like patañjali says "yogah cittah vrttih nirodha": yoga is clearing out the coverings of consciousness and "tada drashtuh svarupe avasthanam": then the seer is established in its own true form
Meditation is self knowledge. When you arrive at that knowledge everything else becomes irrelevant

Being present is really a difficult teaching to grok, seems fitting you have a YT link for it. It seems like for the most part it must be the false-self (which comes from the 5 skhandas) that is present, since the Buddha-Nature is Eternal and beyond Time

By stop asking the same question everyday and by spending tons of time sitting in meditation.
Do your yogasanas and breathwork first.

anapanasati and satipatthana.
"satipatthana: a practice guide" if you're of european stock. it's good if you're interested in the tipitika, ties it together a bit.
