Unironically, gardening and extraction. The gist of it is, using something like chamomile as an example:
>tea/tisane using water and 5 or so flowers has a noticable and mild effect>tincture extract using alcohol as the solvent and 50 or so flowers, then applied sublingually-potent effect, dosed equivalent to tea of 5 or so flowers worth of liquid consumed.>spagyric extract using an alkaline and alcohol wash, using several hundred flowers, chemically and thermally dissected into mercury/sulphur/calx aka alcohol/syrup/ashes. very potent, dosed equivalent to 5 or so flowers.the spagyric processing does the same as nixtamilization

and freebasing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_base#Preparation
which is used for all manner of edible foods/medicines to increase bioavailability.
ALKAloids and ALKAline extractions, using ALCOhol to get the water-insoluble stuff.
ALCHemy is pretty cool when you get rid of all the kikery and wizard shit.
Currently working on a spagyric made from valerian, mugwort, wormwood and snowdrop. More or less a lucid dream inducing cocktail, similar to absinthe, but as a freebased spagyric instead of a tincture (bottle liquor).
