Pretty sure that's a hoax. I can't find anything solid anyway. Also, are dangerous areas in national parks normally legal to traverse? The grand canyon seems like an especially dangerous place to go galivanting around in.

It really doesn't stand alone at all. Most major cities and non-flyover states are pretty close to it politically. For the record, LA is not all of California. It's actually a pretty small part of the state considering it's outsized influence. San Francisco sucks, but the bay area at large is pretty nice. Outside of the two major cities you've got the rural areas, places up in the mountains and forests, the areas out near palm springs/the rest of the desert, as well as multiple military bases, so it's not like the state is a monolith if you look any closer than the pop culture caricature. If you kicked out the insane amount of immigrants the state probably wouldn't even be solidly blue. I think you would struggle to find a major city in America with the kind of populations LA/SF have that isn't a hell hole.
