On topic I believe reincarnation is a LONG process and we incarnated as animals for millions of years before even having the chance at an advanced vessel such as a human. Making the transition isn't easy and so an intermediate human/animal form is what we start as for many lifetimes. Once we get the basics a lot of souls really want to just enjoy the perks of having escaped the brutal reality of the animal kingdom and enjoy middling human forms with the capacity for expanded emotion, but still focused on the simple pleasures of life. Only advanced souls can utilize the best vessels with advanced cognition that strive for greater spiritual truths.
