We express our love of God with our faith, not our knowledge. Our faith requires humbly accepting that no word or idol can “be” God, but rather that we follow the path toward Him. So, you know God as a gift bearer, but that is not humble or pious because God can’t be defined. Instead, pray to understand God, and thank Him when you see His gifts.

God is a word, and the word is God.

Don’t create false idols in your mind. Don’t form an image of God in your mind’s eye. It won’t matter and can only lead you to sin.

People mostly love God for the potential of material gain in some way, and he does provide that to a certain extent. It's not as if God doesn't understand we need stuff in order to survive, and prefer to be comfortable rather than uncomfortable. It's all at his discretion, however. He won't just dump money on you, not without a reason anyway. You lose material wealth for his reasons too. You're never in a situation God hasn't at least allowed. If you get angry with God, even if you stop loving him for taking your stuff away, that isn't unusual. On the cosmic scale, it's immature and selfish. But it's not like a God doesn't know who's immature and selfish and not. Humans tend to be.
