What is the most effective way to control your emotions and thoughts?

I'm looking for a way to "eliminate" my ability to have certain emotions, precisely.

Donโ€™t do this, but Iโ€™ve found that causing myself pain whenever I think or feel a certain way will cause me to naturally learn to avoid that. I have autism and freak out a lot, but it works for me.

A sadhu in my tradition once said:
>In the morning, right when you wake up, you beat your mind 100 times with your shoe.
>Then, when you go to bed, you beat the mind 100 times with a stick.

Wear a rubber band around your wrist. Snap it when you have those emotions and thoughts.

Here is a sutta on the subject that someone on /x/ once shared with me: https://suttacentral.net/mn20/en/sujato?lang=en
I was surprised by how simple and immediately practical the advice is, although I'm still not perfectly in control of my mind after having read it.
