meanwhile Christians will argue with atheists about morality being objective and on everyone's hearts.

But in this case you argue for divine command theory.

Israelites and Canaanites were the same group of bronze age retards.

Same language.
Same cults.
Same myths.

Christians run around screaming the world will end every year and think their "god" talks to them in their heads and endlessly repeat bible verses like worthless golems. Every year they lie.
No end times.
No rapture.
No dead man is coming back to rule the earth.
A dozen delusional cults proclaiming false end times prophecies every year.

At the time Joshua was fighting, the Canaanites represented an existential threat to the world.
In a way they still do now, but we have much better more humane tools to fight them with that don't require violence.
So you can't fault Joshua for his actions then, just like you can't genocide them now.

It seems Deuteronomy 7:1-6 and Deuteronomy 20:16-18 inspired Joshua to do the genocide

Not evil it's their freewill to make a choice.
Thou shalt not kill.
Let he who is without sin cast the perfect stone.

Since we are imperfect our highest ability to judge is through peace.
It's perfect faith in God's judgment.
We are hypocrites suggesting someone else should be punished and that we are clean.

All is wisdom.
God doesn't make the choices for you he gives you a choice, and posits a lesson to you.
That's how a soul is made.

He chose to lead Moses, even after Moses killed an Egyptian for mistreating a Hebrew, God spoke to him and decided to use him as a savior to elect a people that were not perfect.

It is on Joshua or whoever was in command to kill the people and Joshua is responsible for the people following him.
God was initially angry that people wanted a king over them because God is the way.
Albeit people were afraid of other kings so they wanted that protection and probably the organization of that kind of camp.

David was eventually proclaimed king and when he did wrong God would punish him and the people following.
David really hated that pleading to not punish the people and instead punish him only.

That is why we are saved through Jesus Christ.
Because reading is shepherding.
If we believe God sent his son to live as the Messiah of peace, to offer us salvation, then through his sacrifice we are saved because we are following him.
The highest judgment we can make is peace its perfect faith and put to the test right to the point of self sacrifice which is love.

Yeah. That part of the bible is a good reason not to be a Christian or Jew. Christianity rightfully condemns the human sacrifice that was practiced by some cultures at that time but then turns around and starts killing children themselves. Charlemagne used the bible to justify his own crimes against humanity he committed during his wars with the Saxons. The aristocracy at first resisted Christianity when they saw it spreading ideals of peace which threatened their violent way of life, but once they read the whole bible and the parts like “Happy are we who dash children’s heads against stones” they released they could continue killing all the people they wanted.

The bible was written for rich ancient men on farms. It justifies their wars, justifies their subjugation of their family and slaves, justifies their kings and provides a code of conduct for dealing with other members of their class.

People will try to justify these biblical atrocities, saying that they’re exaggerations, and that they were necessary at the time, and so forth. But just as you can make apologia for and justify Abrahamic religion, so can you justify Aztec religion. Abrahamic religions don’t get special treatment.
