Are there any supernatural aspects to the anima and animus? Are they purely just psychological or are they some sort of entities separate from me that I'm meant to take control of integrate? Isn't it possible for these "ideas" to emanate as separate beings?

It's just splitting in case of more severe manifestations, sometimes entities take advantage of this propensity in unstable individuals to mind control them. Usually well adjusted people won't have a shadow of the opposite gender unless they're truly a freak. Most people aren't even self aware enough to be suppressing anything other than the usual desires.

The people you see talking about anima/animus undergo either their own groups methods or are initiated by an entity into learning about opposite gender mental dynamics. Both to imitate, act or become more savvy/wise. There are several schools that either ascribe to the barbelo or agender soul, it's seen as completing your inner self.

I would strongly advise against all this inner alchemy stuff, it's just a fast path for some spirit to give you AGP as a joke or make you a "sleeper". You're better off reading about the opposite gender psychology or learning method acting. It's also functionally useless when it comes to pure utility if you can't pass as the opposite gender. The only exception being deceiving people online or anonymously.

I think most people would have a shadow of the opposite gender because their actual gender would be the side that's already naturally more integrated

Gender has nothing to do with "integration", alchemists are regressive and such concepts are completely wrong. Real identity both transcends and is baser than such foolishness. Women are strictly inferior to men in every way, except for the fact that average woman will have much more developed intuition than the average man; Women are slightly more intelligent than the average man in aggregate too, but they're incapable of any real genius either. 90% of women are even more predictable and homogenized than any man ever could be. It's because men are the ones who have always historically had to succeed in life. So there is variance in aproach, outlook and strategy. This is only for the dolts who are good at mirroring or can only learn through mirroring.

Most people don't want to be the opposite gender and infact are antagonistic to such concepts. Which is why it has to be forced or induced through trauma or corruption. You're not supposed to integrate anything other than your shadow anyway, which is an abstract concept(no gender). You don't understand the real purpose behind such methods and neither did most internal alchemists in their time, as usual even the mid level acolytes are fed misconceptions.

It's only an advantage when leveraged against clueless low value men who don't know how to play "the game". Most of those types are usually faliures anyways unless they succeed using their body(attractiveness or brawn). Most women are just as clueless, more often then not have this advantage ends up being a curse because they use it the wrong way. This is why females are always looked down upon in basically every single religious or spiritual tradition save for those exclusively for them. Such a thing is completely autonomic unless you're self aware, it runs rampant as most people are ambulatory in mental paterns(see Gurdjieff). The general tendency for females is as such and why they're stuck in a handful of the same relationship dynamics or repeat like groundhog day.

Men can be born with the same gifts or proclivities and can use them more effectively if they branch out to purposeful uses or expression. Those that don't have any talent for it still have the potential to learn about them even if they're not a social butterfly(See glowies or most spies). Even the absolute blockhead autist who learns to be self aware has more potential long term than the average woman(most are incapable of self reflection).
