The Jonestown suicide tape is really fascinating to me.

It's oddly secular, in a way. Very little scripture is spoken. Jim Jones talks more about communism and socialism than anything religious.

By this point, Jones had completely eschewed the already dissolving religious gloss of the Peoples' Temple. For years before, he had used all the 'supernatural' tricks of Pentacostal hucksterism to build his congregation, but by this point he saw himself and the movement as purely political. Jim Jones was very much Antichrist-like. Silver tongued, uniting people. You see some parts of the tape where he seems to invert specific Christian teachings altogether. He insists live isn't worth living because of the pain that's coming. He self-deifies with his own congregation claiming him God. He made himself into an idol.

I also think it might be possible for someone to be influenced by the Demonic without realizing. Do you have to be aware you are coming a satanic act in order for it to be one?

Most of those killed at Jonestown were children, very Moloch-like. Also worth noting that death was mandatory. There were some willing, but I think consensus is that most weren't. These people were surrounded by armed guards who weren't gonna let them leave. It was a mandatory suicide.

A lot of it is politics. Jones was very progressive on things like racial equality and very vocal about socialism. Jones met privately with Walter Mondale when he was a vice presidential candidate. He got a lot of praise from liberal politicians and news sources before shit went down.

Most of my life I thought Jonestown was just equivalent to Heaven's Gate, not realizing how much grander in scale and politically charged it was. I'm not surprised leftist sources would not be keen on discussing it, but I AM surprised that the anti-communist right doesn't bring it up more often.

Expanding on this there. Looking through this audio/transcript through a potentially satanic lens is fascinating. Denial of Christ's teachings isn't necessarily satanic. But, worse than that is the inversion of Christ's teachings. Intentional or not, it happens a lot here.

Jim Jones quotes scripture only once. It happens during his opening sermon at 1:15 in the audio. He quotes John 10:18.

Now, in this context he is using it to justify mass suicide. He also attributes it prophets, though they're the words of Jesus preaching to the Pharisees. Jesus tells them he has the authority to lay down his life for the sake of his followers specifically because of God's divinity.

Jones also completely self-deifies. He doesn't say 'I am God' to anyone, he doesn't have to. His sermon begins with

So he's completely replaced God. There is no God in this sermon or in this church. From his first words he gets God out of the room and focuses all on him.

There are a lot of weird audio distortions in the type. Really distinct. Anyone know anything about cassette audio? Would anything cause these other than a defect in the recorder or the tape or something?

First one is around 4:13. It's Jim Jones talking. He just asked for dissenting opinions. It's sounds like he's responding to a dissenter but I can't hear what the other person is saying at all.

This was interesting to read but the reason for the distortion is simply that the death tape was recorded over an existing tape. That's why you can hear music bleeding in sometimes. Real nigga shit is the tape recorded sometime in the next few days where you can hear the Guyanese news reporting on the mass suicide. It has to be from before the Guyanese army got there, it has to be after the suicide, and you can hear people talking on it. So it's pretty much conclusive proof that the mainstream narrative of Jonestown is a lie.
