I used to love reading about true crime and studied it immensely like 5 years ago, grew out of it because I just gained a genuine lack of respect for serial killers and find them weak.

I have been randomly playing higurashi and it is giving me a desire to solve mysteries and conspiracies but do any of this type of stuff really exist where crimes etc happen because of ghosts and spirits and stuff?

The problem with being a serial killer is it would be too easy to rack up 100+ kill streaks and not get caught.
Just travel to a random location you have no location to, kill someone in a randomly selected way careful not to have a pattern, and go home.
It's super hard to solve murders of this nature.
Someone would have to catch you in the act, which is entirely preventable.
Of course, serial killers always want to larp and gain attention because they suck, fuck them.

I never played Higurashi, but most crimes are indeed encouraged or even suggested by negative spirits.
But not caused; the final choice and most of the responsibility still lies to the incarnated person, unless they aren't responsible for their own actions due to something like a mental condition, or young age.
