>>40625305 (OP)Hmm... the Mexican nahuales are sometimes tied to the phases of the moon, though the one in this example is a chimera and is tied to the new moon rather than the full one. https://culturacolectiva.com/en/history/nahuales-legendary-mesoamerican-shapeshifter-mythology-animals/
The norse god Odin was connected to werewolves, a special kind of berserker known as the ulfheðnar. But AFAIK the ulfheðnar were not connected to the phases of the moon, and usually transformed with the help of a magic pelt, similar to Navajo skinwalkers. The Aztec gods Tezcatlipoca, Tepeyollotl, and Xolotl have some traits that bridge the gap between old and new world werewolf legends. All of those gods can shapeshift, with Tepeyollotl being a sort of shapeshifted alter ego of Tezcatlipoca. Tezcatlipoca has similarities to Odin, while Xolotl is actually a canine, though a dog rather than a wolf or coyote. There’s an interesting connecting between Xolotl and the berserker legends. Berserkers were sometimes said to be immune to fire, and Xolotl, a patron god of shapeshifters, was also a fire god presiding over “heavenly fire” which included lightning.
