Indra is an insert of man elevating themselves to deity, with the challenge of being able to recognize the God above you and not falling into the illusion that you are God itself. It's why there is a "new" Indra each time the Yuga cycle starts again.

The Trimurti, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, is a divine power-structure beyond the realm of Earth. They are the fundamental powers of creation, maintainance and end of the cosmos. They don't interact with humanity.
The Devas on the Meru are the "gods" of humanity (and the other beings of the mundane world, the Bhu Mandala), and Indra is their king. That makes Indra the highest divine force that can be accessed by humans, and the force that is responsible to fight the Asuras who attack the cosmic order. If humans want to worship the divine, within their realm (that includes the Meru) it's Indra who represent the highest authority.

Again, you clearly haven't read the Veda's in anyway. Your following much much later Puranic mythology which is a more loose adaptation of ideas in the Veda. You should wonder why almost no one in modern India worships Indra.
