I'm so tired bros. I was at the fault lines in japan physically holding them together. I had my hands gripping one tectonic plate and my face hooked around the cusp of the other plate. >>40672915This, except the nobility of some type of preservation or protection act.
I think they've fucked around seismically, so much in the past 150 years, that I doubt there is much easily exploitable tectonic stress left. Remember, it takes thousands of years to create these shearing potentials, in the absence of repeated shocks to the crust. It seems that, if they want to make big bad quakes these days, they're exclusively reliant on HAARP harmonic grooming of standing waves and/or sub oceanic explosives as there is little natural tectonic stress left to relieve anymore.

These swarms have been happening for decades since 90s but have been becoming more intensified , closer time gaps and longer durations. >>40674596What does the quality mean
>>40674647Yep, it got revised when posted on official sources. It pinged around from 4.2-5.0
>>40674655It refers to the amount of data collected and accuracy when the program detects and revises data based on how many stations detected it. The more stations that pick up good data of the movement, the higher the quality becomes.
Like this one in picrel that's happening in Costa Rica right now. When I did the screengrab for the recent Japan one, it was the first station that clocked it as a quake.

Things are fortunately quiet at the moment from Japan to Taiwan. 3.0 about 15 minutes ago now.
But, there was a 6.0 in New Zealand about 4 hours ago, and three 5.0+ in Indonesia, as well as other 'elevated' activity in Philippines, India, and Myanmar. Neither of these things are super out of the ordinary, but just making observation that higher magnitude earthquakes are occurring in nearby regions.

>>40677840Reminder that prior 3/11 it went quiet too

As a side note, the schumann resonances are a bit on the quiet side today. This is a purely anecdotal observation, but I've noticed this happens ahead of larger magnitude quakes as well. It happened as well right before the 7.7 in Myanmar, and the 7.0's in Alaska and California.
I pray for the safety of people who live there.
>>40677917Only another 3mW in past 3 hours with little to no activity in area overall. If I had to guess the stress is building up or magma has reached a pocket with more thick rock. Notice how over weeks the swarm is traveling up

Okay Iโm looking at map and in past hour the new earthquakes are miles away from typical locations they occur in. Any idea why the moved so much
>12 hour hiatus >swarm ends yo moving up north to a new islandPlus the depths here are very shallow, happen within minutes of each other plus constant 1-2 mWs with 3s happening every 30 minutes
>>40679152No it wasnโt anon she had dream on July 5
>>40679168> Any idea why the moved so muchPicrel. The quakes activity is migrating closer to the surface as quake epicenters travel upward. It could be magma making its way toward the surface, since it's also migrating closer to volcanic peaks, ie. the islands.
>>40679282This aligns with
>>40675883 theory that magma might be rising above sea bed plus constant 1-2mW might be pressure popping off. But I find it interesting how the swarm seems to be migrating both north and south.
2 4+ quakes occurred within time span of 1 minute
The swarm was quiet and picked up steam now. Noticing that 4s occur within a 24 hour span of each other
Magma content in volcanoes near swarm are increasing. There might actually be magma seeping in into fault lines and causing cracks across the surface.

Even mt Rainer is starting to jolt
WTF is up with earthquakes around volcanoes across world?
>>40686020I have noticed this, yes. A lot of the other activity I mentioned is also due to volcanic activity. Green/Italy is related to volcanic. Indonesia, Philippines, and Japan are all on volcanic stretches of increased activity.
The swam in Japan is quickly being validated as volcanic activity due to the shifting northeast-ish over time, as well as the earthquakes traveling upwards toward the surface. This suggests that magma is pushing its way to the surface. Increased ash plumes is also another indication of this.
I wouldn't be surprised if data is being suppressed. They are likely on a backlog of verifying all the seismic readings that are coming in and attempting to analyze data in order to (hopefully) issue accurate applicable warnings if necessary. USGS does that shit all the time for California. The sheer volume of data that we don't see is insane, and that is largely because of how much space it would take. Interactive maps would basically be unusable.
Also worth noting, we had our first sizable solar flare since mid June. That energy will likely hit earth in the next two days. We also have a relatively large coronal hole about to orient Earth Facing, which can impact seismic activity.
>>40686113Solar Maximum, and a likely "oversaturation" of various electromagnetic energy is pent up from years of that energy hitting and being stored in the earth.
My eyes are hard fixed on the Juan de Fuca/Cascadia Fault. If shit pops off in Japan, it could trigger something over here on the West Coast. Rainier and St. Helens both have been a bit jumpy.
>>40686177> Philippines, and Japan are all on volcanic stretches of increased activity.Plus mt Rainer had a bunch of quakes early in morning. Might not anything but sort of coincidental that its happening along with other volcano induced swarms. Im wondering why so much volcanic activity in past week especially around volcano prone areas.
> shifting northeast-ish over time, as well as the earthquakes traveling upwards toward the surface. This suggests that magma is pushing its way to the surface. Increased ash plumes is also another indication of this.A 3.1 just occurred but the swarm that was up north for a while has died down. Seems to have settled back into its original swarm location. I wonder whats happening under sea bed thatโs causing so much seismic activity.
> They are likely on a backlog of verifying all the seismic readings that are coming in and attempting to analyze data in order to (hopefully) issue accurate applicable warnings if necessary.Theyโre probably double checking so they donโt cause panic and unnecessary damage to the economy in area. If they do call for an evacuation or warning it would effect economy their pretty hard.
> relatively large coronal hole about to orient Earth Facing, which can impact seismic activity. How do solar flares have any effect on seismic activity? I domt see connection.

>How do solar flares have any effect on seismic activity? I domt see connection.Space weather is a fascinating thing, and most geologists and such will deny a correlation or relationship between the two. But, if you look at the data, it becomes pretty apparent there's a relationship of some sort.
https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/phenomena/coronal-holes
for the TL;DR it's more or less a spot in the corona which is less dense and cooler in temperature. This spot more or less opens the Sun's magnetic field up to space, and shoots out high speed solar winds, energy, plasma, etc. That energy impacts the earth, and charges various layers of the Earth's atmosphere, and the earth itself with energy, which can then be stored and/or released within various layers. That solar wind is estimated to reach us in a few days.

It's a bit too soon to see what magnetic ground perturbation forecasts look like, but we'll see.

>03/11/11 biggest earthquake in century occurred a year later. Pretty nutty, isn't it? And statistically speaking, Earth is overdue for an 8.0+. I think it's been about 4 years, Japan might've actually been the last one.
I think I have seen that documentary, but it's been a long time.
It's not in the same area as the swarm, but still within Japan. Keep in mind, due to the region being a converging point for multiple plates, all the previous activity possibly could've locked other areas, forcing quakes/energy releases elsewhere. Especially in subduction zones.

>>40686614Indeed, last megaquake on that side was in 1700. I remember the 6.8 Nisqually Quake in Washington happening too, it was pretty crazy to feel, despite living like 80 miles from the epicenter at the time.

>>40686737Hahaha, I remember that being a topic of conversation when it happened. The singular death caused by a heart attack always tripped me out. When I got older. Seattle got hot pretty hard on that one. Lots of historical brick buildings had pretty significant damage
>>40688257A few! Morning anon. :) Japan just had a 5.3 off the coast of Tokyo, with swarming continuing in that same region we've been watching. Looks like a 3.3 was the last quake to pop off the southern islands.
Other activity worth mentioning:
Swarm in Guatemala started yesterday and continues this morning. Most quakes are 2.0-3.5M.
Swarm in Washington State continues at Mt. Rainier. Mostly still microquakes under 1.0M.
Swarm in the Green region continues
Indonesia/Philippines are also still quite active, with multiple volcanic eruptions contributing to seismic activity.
>>40688547>Green region*Greece
>>40688547This map shows quakes in the area I live but I havenโt felt any lately
>>40688547Did you just see what Japan meteorological agency just reported?
Thereโs crystal movement that made islands move apart by 10 cm. This is quiet serious
>>40688647If you haven't felt them, they were likely smaller ones that aren't usually able to be felt. People can start to feel them around 2.5M typically. You guys in Japan are getting a fuck ton of 1-2M earthquakes.
>>40688655 Holy shit, no, I hadn't seen that yet. That's big for them to come out and say so plainly that they're unsure if this could lead to a big one, especially with my understanding of the culture in Japan. That kind of movement typically would take years.
This, combined with a lot of the other elevated activity worldwide is, unfortunately, making me very nervous.
>>40688696nervous about what?
or just uneasy because its uncommon?
also want to add:
>Solar flare hit Japan yesterday. some studies show causal links to those and earthquakes. might be something later.

fun times ahead, i think.
>>40688730>>40688696I wonder if thereโs an underwater volcano erupting?
>>40688730 Nervous about devastation to lands, and people. 10cm in such a short period is extremely unusual. The average tectonic plate moves approximately 1.5cm per year, but up to 10cm per year depending on the area, activity, etc. It depends on the plate, locked areas, etc of course, but the whole world is rumblin'.
>also want to add:>Solar flare hit Japan yesterday.some studies show causal links to those and earthquakes. might be something later.
>massive coronal hole in sun will be in geoeffective position around the 14-15ththis could also lead to worsening earthquake
This is part of what has me nervous as well. I mentioned these factors in these comments yesterday as well:
>>40686296>>40686205>>40686177Energy from the recent M2.whatever class solar flare is forecasted to hit Earth on the 11th, with the coronal hole going geoaffective soon. This coronal hole is on something like it's 10th rotation as well. Significantly smaller than it used to be, but still.

Within the entire region of Japan, there have in fact been 3.0M+, 4.0M+, 5.0M+. quakes throughout the day.
If you are trying to isolate the Tokara Islands region, then yes, it is correct there has been nothing above a 4.0M today, but there have been several 3.0+
>>40691023Im talking about cluster swarms not the entire Japanese peninsula and there was no 4 there yesterday as well.
2 4.5+ in middle of Africa near no fault lines plus itโs near a volcano
>>40691339I've been wondering if I'd see anything near Tanzania with all this. A few months ago, a volcano on Ethiopia was erupting, and there's been a number of reports since about volcanic activity in Africa causing the continent to split. Oof
Alrighty OP here, time for a check in now that I've had some time to take a look at things while I haven't been online today.
>picrel includes Taiwan, Philippines, and part of Indonesia.
Wanted to zoom out to show the activity on that entire chain. The prophecy from The Future I Saw manga did describe Japan, Philippines, and Taiwan became one landmass. Lots of these quakes are along major fault lines.
Data from Japan is validating theories that the EQ swarm in Japan is due to volcanic activity. I'm not on twitter, so I'm not going to be reliable for screengrabs on that.
While the region of Japan has been "quieter" in the last 24 hours, there is still a lot of fucking earthquakes happening.
Plswait for part 2.
>>40692218Damn, forgot the picrel.
>>40692218Part 2
Other swarms are currently happening around the globe in relation (Either caused by, or geographically close to) volcanoes include:
Guatemala - Swarming started yesterday, and has had over 80 quakes above 2.0M according to Volcano Discovery
Washington State, USA - Several hundred 'microquakes' are happening at Mt. Rainier since yesterday. Magnitude is increasing a bit, frequency seems to be relatively consistent.
Greece - A lot of it is in relation to their erupting volcanoes, but the 'swarm' is widespread through the Dodecanese Islands. Many of the aftershocks of a 5.0+ the other day are along plate boundaries.
Picrel is 3.0+ quakes worldwide for the past 24 hours.
I always find this neat, others may not, but you can see a concentration of quakes at particular latitudes. When big quakes happen, it can cause chain reactions of plates bumping into one another.
>>40692329Part 3 - Want to close in a bit more on the USA activity for shits and giggles.
Don't get scared of California, lol. If anything, this is a pretty light day for Cali. What IS notable in California, however, is the quakes at the converging point of the Juan De Fuca plate, North American Plate, and Pacific plate. I haven't seen much activity there since the 7.1 last year, and following aftershocks. So, we've got six today, I guess.
We actually had couple earthquakes on the New Madrid Fault this week, which is another scary one for the US. If that thing undergoes a full rupture, the Mississippi River gets blown wide open from the Gulf of Mexico all the way up the river. Yikes.
We're seeing a lot of our mountain ranges active. Not 'abnormally' (yet), but still worth nothing, when you factor in all the other global activity.
Now if we really want to make this /x/ worthy, this is where I can sound a bit crazy, but I'm a bit suspicious of just how perfectly aligned all the quakes in Nevada are. A 3.4 occurred there about 45 minutes ago now. DEWs are being used quite a bit more these days, and there's some oddball 'plans' I'm aware of in regards to future landscaping, we'll say. Keep that in the back of your minds.
Interesting how the mountain ranges of the USA are chattering a bit more, isn't it?
>>40692409USGS can get on my nerves sometimes, because a lot of people are under the false impression that the Juan de Fuca plate is totally silent outside of what is visible on the USGS map. It definitely isn't, you just have to look at Canada's EQ map. :(
The amount of times I have considered launching a monitoring system for just that plate is stupid. I just want to see it all on one window :(

>>40692674>>40692622>>40692544Food for thought
If big tsunami does occur a Fukushima like scenario could take place. Look at the amount of nuclear power plants near the area that could be impacted by the tsunami
>>40692757I've been trying to keep that thought to myself. It could be real bad in that regard.
>>40692801Knowing China they probably cut corners or didnt take into account tsunami preparations. Japan prepared meter wall high tsunami walls and Fukushima still flooded. Mind you the coast of China tends to be the most densely populated areas so if a nuclear radiation leak does occur millions will have to relocate.
Lets not forget
>chemical spills from all manufacturing needed >oil/gas spills >fire >blocked roads from debris >electricity going out for millions In 3/11 quake w third of Japanโs electricity power plants went off line.
>>40692801If you look at satellite images theres barely any sort of flood wall or elevation to protect from the threat of a tsunami. Plus liquification could occur where it enough shaking does happen that the soil sinks into itself

OP here! Here's an update. Been swamped with other shit today, so I'm just taking a look for the first time today.
Japan is a wild ride today. As others have mentioned, lots of rain an flooding. Yikes.
In terms of quakes, we're still pretty active.
4.2M 45 minutes ago, and another 4.2 ~20 minutes ago, a couple 3,0M+, and lots of 0.5M-2.0M+
Picrel is the entire region
>>40698739Picrel is zoomed in on the location of the swarm. In the last hour or two, it seems like we've had a jolt in frequency and seismicity. Some are occurring within two minutes of each other. Most recent is a 3.6 12 minutes ago.
>>40698758>>40698739Thanks, OP
Is this getting worse since monday?
>>40698758Zooming out at the globe, there's been some other larger worthy mentions today.
5.0M and 5.1M in Guatemala, and Mexico, respectively. We've been seeing active swarming in Guatemala the past couple days.
Also seeing four 4.0M+ on spanning North to South in the Atlantic ocean. Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Azorzes Island Region, a bit further north, and in the Greenland see. Most of those areas have had multiple quakes concentrated in each area. Not unusual to see quakes here, but a bit so that there's that many in one day visible on various maps.
The subduction zone along Russia is joining the party, too. 4.2M three and a half hours ago, 4.6 12 hours ago with some 2's and 3's sprinkled in.
picrel is worldwide
>>40698787You're welcome!

>>40699228 Coronal holes being geoeffective releases high velocity solar winds at earth, which blows into us. In pic rel, if you look at the bottom graphic, the green dot is the earth. All the red surrounding it is the energy from the coronal hole reaching Earth, and that starts tomorrow and is forecasted to last through the 13th.
This is something to make a mental note of. Events like this DO sometimes correlate with large magnitude earthquakes. I'll try to put together some examples of various events, but the one of the last notable occurrences of this was the 7.7 in Myannmar.
After scanning through all this, I think IF we see a quake above 7.0M, it would likely fall sometime between now and the 16th.
>>40699315Could magma induced quakes even cause 7.0? Isnโt that usually do to plate tectonics
>>40699250I mostly agree! I do really enjoy the capability to watch stations in real time. I find it does pretty well for Indonesia and New Zealand, too. But other stuff can be hit and miss, so no argument from me!
I do primarily use it since I'm in the US, and like to compare it against other data.
The quakes are happening every 10 minutes at this point. I wonder what changed plus with volcano activity across the southern island chains increasing in magma ash particles.
>>40699329Did you see that Mr Rainer swarm surpassing the 2009 swarm. But the USGS thinks thereโs no need to worry since itโs at a shallow depth which magma canโt be at.
>>40699323I don't have a solid answer for that, if I'm honest. There might be another another better versed in volcanic activity?
But, when I think about the volcanic activity, and the quakes, and the space weather, and the solar weather, I feel like there's a lot of factors that can change quickly.
I'm also not well versed in astrology, but I know we are entering a full moon, and pretty major transit of Uranus entering Gemini happened two days ago I think?
>>40699357I did see that. I have checked in on that one multiple times today. While I generally trust the word of USGS, I am nervous, because it's a lot of activity and it surpassed the 2009 swarm quickly. Juan de Fuca Plate has some activity on the northern end in Canada. I have ready to grab and run if needed. I'm sure it'll be fine, but better safe than sorry.

Bot or NPC thread. Pro-tip. >>40705183Its not 2 weeks yet its the 11th so 3 more days
>>4070518304+14 is 18 so we still have 7 days until prediction goes out of 2 week range
>>40705406Thatโs why your probably mad you donโt like a mega thread predicting a major disaster hitting where you live.
>>40706043Iโm just here for the EQ updates breh
Much to grumpanon's dismay, I have an update for you guys. :) I wasn't feeling the greatest today, but I've got a few updates now! As a gentle reminder, we're not hoping for destructive shit to happen. ;) Just observing and spectating.
First and foremost: Japan! The swarm off Tokara Islands had some movement today with two 5.0M, four or five 4.0M+, and lots of other stuff for 3.9M and below. All of these had varying depths from 85km-110km. So we're seeing some larger magnitude activity again.
We also saw Taiwan get a few 3.0M-4.0M quakes today, with a 5.1 on the southern boundary of the Okinawa plate.
Indonesia had three 5.0M+ today, with the largest being 5.5; I think that's the largest today!
>>40706554We did have some pretty big volcanic eruptions today. Keep in mind, some of these have been under a 'erupting' or 'warning' status for a while, so when I say "an eruption today," I basically mean satellite imagery detected new smoking, ash plume, etc.
Suwanose-jima erupted today, which is at least one of the culprits of the quake swarm in Japan. Satellite imagery sucks today because there were storms. No further advisories at this time.

Picrel shows depth of quakes over the last week.
>>40706630Blah, forgot pic.
>>40706554The USA is definitely getting sprinkled with some more activity today as well. Got a couple popped up on the New Madrid fault, North Carolina, Kansas, etc.
Los Angeles area had a 4.3 around 3AM PDT, and there's been 72 quakes following that today. It's California, so it's not much to bat an eye over. More quakes offshore Petrolia again, with a small one within the hour.
Mt. Rainier is surprisingly still going with its swarm, putting the total to ~460 quakes the last few days. A bit over fifty today, which is a slower pace than prior ones. However, the magnitude of the quakes is increasing. The first day was majority 0.4M-0.8M, but today there's a noticeable increase in 1.0M+ quakes with a 2.4M being the largest so far.
Guatemala is still swarming today, too! Still predominantly in the same 2.0M-3.5M range.
>>40706715Coronal hole is officially geoeffective today.
>>40706715Coronal hole is officially geoeffective today! The sun is otherwise pretty boring today, which is a good thing. A couple small C solar flares, with an 1.43M flare just a bit ago.
>>40706759Energy from that coronal hole and/or solar flares are now reaching Earth in picrel, which contains the geospace magnetosphere pressure model, and the solar wind forecast on the bottom. So, just to circle back to yesterday, I think if we DO see something much larger in magnitude, it would be between now and the 16th
>>40705259Keep sharing them, these are cool! I lost my image collection a long time ago.
>>40705406Have you felt many there? The last one noticable one I felt was in 2001. There was a really gentle one a couple months ago I would've probably dismissed entirely if I hadn't happened to look up and seen leaves on some of my plants swaying around
>>40706809Oh, and you can see that energy hitting earth in the form of geospace ground magnetic perturbations as well. Always weirds me out a bit when it gets red like that lol
>>40706981Forgot pic rel again, haha. Time for me to go to bed anons. Goodnight
>>40706889No theyโre not very frequent here. There was a mildly spooky one about a year ago and maybe 6 months ago there was a really small one.
>>40706554The earthquake usually picks up around 11-2 and thereโs barely been any activity for 2 hours. Guess cycle changing
>>40706715> Guatemala is still swarming today, too! Still predominantly in the same 2.0M-3.5M range.https://youtu.be/OE-ob7DBVPI
Go to 3:20
>>40707017Are you a Japanese or foreigner in nippon
>>40707023Another 2 hours of quiet/low activity
>>40707023I am a foreigner taking a long vacation in nipland
>>40707023>>40707350Thanks for keeping up while I was asleep! Feeling much better this morning, and should be able to keep a bit of a better eye on things today too.
>>40708375Maybe! I don't remember what the post limit is per thread. But it might be appropriate since we've started looking at more than just Japan.
