>But what about what Manly Hall said?
>"Not only were many of the founders of the United States Government Masons, but they received aid from a secret and august body existing in Europe, which helped them to establish this country for a peculiar and particular purpose known only to the initiated few. The Great Seal is the signature of this exalted body - unseen and for the most part unknown - and the unfinished pyramid upon its reverse side is a trestleboard setting forth symbolically the task to the accomplishment of which the United States Government was dedicated from the day of its inception."

It's a quote from The Secret Teachings Of All Ages. The book was written in 1928.
Manly Hall didn't become a Mason until 1954 and thus didn't really know what he was talking about.

Pyramids aren't. Go into any Lodge right now and there's no pyramids. Triangles and threes are important, but pyramids themselves nothing direct. We have one Lodge here with a Pyramid mural, but there's nothing in the ritual relating to Pyramids.

Crap, messed up trying to fix my post and deleted it.
Yeah, I believe the Shrine also uses it as a symbol. But everyone sees Pyramids and automatically thinks "Masons" and I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to start laying that to rest.
Always good to bump into another brother around here.

Its not like they're always going to say which symbols are there's and which aren't. They're still a secret society after all. Everyone already knows pyramids are masonic because they venerate other Egyptian themes as well. Not a Mandela.

First off, I am a Mason.
It's not a symbol.
Second, why would we deny a symbol most people think is associated with us.
Third, people think the point of the symbols is to "mark our territory" (it isn't, but let's go with that for a minute). Why would we disavow a prominent symbol?
Also, we're not a secret society. We're a fraternity. Those are Masonic websites - members of secret societies wouldn't be so open.
Even our Grand Lodges have websites, something secret societies also don't do:

You're right it's not a Mandela, but most Mandelas actually aren't - they're things people never really noticed and always assumed something else about.

I was admittedly being a bit cheeky with the subject but the fact remains that neither the pyramid nor Great Seal are Masonic symbols.

Except it's not.
There's no hierarchical power structure like that in Freemasonry.
It's not a rigid system with 33 degrees like most think. There are three main degrees (everyone who sticks around earns the third), and then a bunch of lessons that go up to the 32nd in a body called the Scottish Rite (everyone makes it to the 32nd as well), with an honorary 33rd for certain individuals who are recognized for their service to the SR.

It's not a contract with God. It is agreeing to do and not to do certain things in order to be a member in good standing of the organization. It is blind, but it is also conditioned on the fact that nothing within that oath ought to offend the conscience of a good man.
An oath sworn under false pretenses would not be binding.
It is also not quite a blood oath in the sense that most people think. The penalties are symbolic. The person who swears them is informed that they represent the pain one ought to feel for breaking an oath sworn before God; the actual penalty is expulsion.
But the point is that Masons don't believe God "owes" them anything.

I'm sorry, but what you are saying has no connection whatsoever with reality.
It is nonsense that you've convinced yourself so that you can believe you have secret knowledge no one else does.
But I'm sorry, with all due respect, it does not reflect reality.
It always amazes me when people who have never been part of something think they understand it better than those who have been involved with it for years.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm a Mason in the once-a-Mason-always-a-Mason sense.
I haven't been active in a while.
I'm just telling you what I know. Which is a lot because I was active for a while, was a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite, and did serve as an officer in my home lodge.
I'm also well acquainted with the "theories" people have, having been into that stuff before I even joined. I'm well-aware of a lot of conspiratorial stuff, actually.
But it really doesn't reflect reality, at least not as far as Masons are concerned.

You do the illegal work the jews don't want to do
You seem like a nice person I doubt they had you do much wrong.
People that enter into this group do so for self interest.
They climb ranks by doing what they're told.
They are sold a light version of kabbalah
and some are utilized to retard targets the jews acquire.
The rest are just at kung fu practice for merit badges, esteem, and social clout

I'm going to go to sleep but if the thread is still up
Lord willing I'll formulate my thoughts
better so you can see what I'm talking about

No one's doing illegal work.
That's not how it works in Masonry. No one gives you jobs or orders.
People do volunteer work. Charity. And that on a volunteer basis.
I appreciate your kind words and think you are sincerely mistaken but it really isn't the big cabal that so many set it up in their heads as being. It is a very open organization that really isn't as "secretive" as so many want it to be - our primary secrets are our modes of recognition and most of the rest is an open book (literally - our books and rituals are out in the public!).

Also, no, there are no ranks to climb.
You petition, and are accepted, and join. You're initiated. You memorize the memory work (basically what the initiation entailed) then you're passed to Fellow Craft. You memorize that (which is similar to the initiation) and then you're a Master Mason. Master Mason is the highest degree.
The stuff like the 33rd Degree or Knight Templar are in separate organizations called Appendant Bodies. You don't do tasks to gain them. I'm a 32nd Degree in the Scottish Rite. The degrees pertain to lessons, and each degree has a play that you watch. You don't have to watch all of them at once - you watch 3 or 4 and the last one is the 32nd and *boom*, you're a "32nd Degree Mason." You can go back and watch the others at your leisure. No hierarchy to climb, nothing.
It's similar in the York Rite, although you go through all of those.
There is an officer system, but it's really easy to become a part of that and it rotates upwards yearly. It's not hard to become Master of the Lodge. Grand Lodge is a little more involved but, again, their authority is over the lodge system itself, not in "tasking" anyone to do anything.
There are no "secret authorities" to give orders. It's really just a fraternity with interesting rituals and symbolisms.
