Not sure that's a thing. By the time magic was written down it was already an amalgamation of different traditions. Euro-pagan magic had already been replaced or integrated with Christian practices.

Actually trying to understand magic scientifically. No, I'm not joking, every other culture has a hard line between magic and the physical, material world. It's only Europeans that try to understand magic with the scientific method and make things that work reliably.
