I did not get to make the pain feel good, but I ended up being able to totally accept it when I realized that as soon as you stop, the pain stops, as if it had never existed, but the gain you got in exchange is still there for you to enjoy for long. So instead of refusing the pain, trying to run away from it, I accepted it as part of the deal, I realized it not such a big deal, I even started to listen to it, and it made the pain, not enjoyable, but finally acceptable. This may seem stupid, but thanks to it now I can for example epilate my body while for many people it's too painful, because in exchange for one hour of pain I get to enjoy a hairless body for weeks.
I think the important part is accepting the pain and listening to it, for pain is a warning, if you refuse it, it will keep spamming your brain. And that is why it only works for physical pain. Suffering in your mind is a different thing.
