That's because orgies weren't a mainstream tradition, specially not in big cities. The cults dedicated to Cibeles did practice them for example. This doesn't mean there weren't sexual elements in mainstream traditions though, but not on the level of orgies were people self mutilated.

Why focus in the orgies though, it was just a satirical remark. My point was that paganism isn't confined to those people.

In ancient Greece, the poor would offer votive sacrifices, or artificial representations of animals, because they couldn't afford the real thing. I'm not too pleased at the thought of using real ones but that's adorable.

All nationalism is just fighting for something that you, statistically speaking, don’t own. It is fighting to be oppressed by someone who speaks Russian or Cantonese instead of someone who speaks Ukrainian or Mandarin. What are borders? They are ultimately property lines between owners. Kings are just the biggest property owner in a land and their kingdom is their deed. Feudal wars were competitions between kings and aristocrats to see who got to own the land. The landless serfs, slaves, and beggars have always had the least to gain and most to lose from these squabbles. In today’s society, are you closer to the high king or humble serf? He who owns no property has nothing to gain from fighting for someone else’s. Warfare is just robbery at a grand scale.
