so..an uniform-wearing, drill-doing, armed, ranked and iirc they also do martial arts or sword drills too, sub-group of an already kinda SUS lama's lineage..Are they harmless cosplayers? something more sinister, such as scientology's Sea Org? It seems like an overlooked yet fascinating rabbit hole.

Chogyam Trungpa is basically the Aliester Crowley of Tibet, in that he (like Crowley) understood that enlightenment/source/oneness/Godhead/alpha-omega/theosis/etc is not the same thing as morality.
And while technically that's true, goddamn morality is fucking important simply because IT MAKES ATTAINMENTS 10x EASIER.
Now as to the military stuff, it's not nearly as intense as SEA-ORG, it's more like reenacting yahoo levels of military LARPing. See he was into the "warrior" thing from the beginning, and his followers are taking it literal. I've read his path of the warrior book and he clearly says it's metaphorical and ALSO he was envisioning a Mongol type warrior not western military, but he's long dead and his followers interpret it how they want.

I accept most of your post as true but; isn't sea org LESS intense, since they don't eve do karate\whatever self defense, nor drills, and are just "butlers for celebrities"?
Or, does sea-org actually do weapon \Intel Agent stuff, or Military Navy stuff in their cruise at sea?
