The story pretty much goes like this.

When I was about 5 years old, my dad bought one of those office-type coolers (picrel). I don't remember why, I think it was because we were on the brink of going homeless and the goal was to save on water?

Anyway, the day he brought it home and filled it up, I was staying up with my parents. Playing in the house, whatever. I eventually wandered into the room where the cooler was in. I looked into it, and there was this thing with a piranha-like head? but it had a frog's body, just swimming in there. It didn't really freak me out, but I didn't want to drink water where that "fish" had been in.

So I called my mom, who freaked out way more than I did, and then she got my dad. My dad said the creature was evil and the work of the devil, so he took the jug part off and took it out to shoot it.

My dad's dead, so I can't ask him if he remembers, but even after 13 years my mom still remembers the creature and how it unnerved her - we had and have no idea how it got in the cooler.

Has anyone seen a similar creature? It was a dark green and so many teeth, it's eyes were like blotches of grey. It was smaller than the average frog, I think.

If the goal was saving money maybe your dad found the cooler in the trash, maybe there were some tadpoles or something's eggs in the gallon and he didn't wash before filling it up

Can you draw it? I can't fathom what such a creature would look like.

Water coolers don't work like that. It's a new jug every time you swap out. There's no reason to refill a jug. Oh wait. You were probably stealing it from the neighbors.

Sorry, this is OP (though you're fine to be a skeptic on that). I unfortunately can't draw teeth very well. It's eyes were like that muted grey you see in fictional (real?) blind people

No, I believe he got it from family (we are latino), my uncle helped him set it up and I handed him parts. I have no contact with my father's family though.

Your dad is a chode for killing the cooler critter.
Today a tree frog stuck himself to my window and I got to watch him walking around out there like gollum. Hope he's happy.

Huh interesting. My only guesses are that it was some sort of mutant tadpole that didn't correctly metamorphosize or a salamander whose tail end got cut off. Some kind of amphibian possibly. Do you live near a wastewater treatment plant or something?

"Creechah in a Coolah"
(Verse 1)
Creechah in a coolah,
Creechah in a coolah,
Mommy, come and see,
There’s a creechah in tha coolah!

It’s got froggy little legs,
And teeth that look like razors,
Eyes that bulge and blink at me,
Like it’s makin’ devil wagers!

(Chorus)
Creechah in a coolah,
Splashin’ in the ice,
Hissin’ like a kettle,
But it don’t smell nice!

Mommy’s screamin’, backin’ up,
Knocks over the pan,
Then BOOM! comes stompin’ down the stairs —
It’s Daddy with a pan!

(Verse 2)
He says, "That ain't no critter —
That's the devil's snack!"
He whacks it with the skillet
'Til it’s flatter than a track.

He shouts, “I seen one just like that,
Back in ‘83 —
They come up from the swamp
When the moon shines on the sea!”

(Bridge)
Now the cooler's busted,
And the kitchen’s full of goo,
We’re moppin’ up the floor,
But I think there’s maybe... two?!

(Final Chorus)
Creechah in the coolah,
Gone but not for long,
If you hear the ice a-rattle,
You best start singin' this song!
