It was named "Atlas" because it is convention to name astronomical objects after the discoverer of the object. In this case it was a telescope named "Atlas" that discovered the object hence its name.

I don't know or care much about what the likes of Corbel and other dubious schisters have to say about it.

It may be of technological origin. The James Web telescope is going to be aimed at it from what I recall hearing. It will be interesting to hear the results. Assuming we're told the truth.

And yeah, there is a chance they would lie about it if they did find something extraordinary and report that it is nothing but some sort of interstellar comet. What can you even want to believe these days anymore.
