That's what I mean. There's old videos of him from the 80s where he seems to be going much deeper with it, his voice & body language shifting in a more noticeable way. I think initially this was just some skill he stumbled upon, but then people started giving him attention for it & he turned it into a way to make money. Probably it wasn't an all at once thing either, more just a "hey this is helping people! I should do seminars, to get the word out there..." thing that gradually got corrupted.

Of course even that early stuff could be fake. There is a certain kind of guy who *would* pretend to channel aliens just to get people to pay attention to him in a new age discussion group.
