Let's say you have a game that awards a win at a rate of 1/100 times. You play it 99 times, all losses. What's the probability of a victory on the 100th play? Despite feeling "owed" a victory, it's still just 1/100.
It's tempting to want to live in a time of destruction. It's something to distract us from our mundane, even depressing lives. It gives the impression we're living in an interesting, noteworthy time, and that we are in turn interesting and noteworthy people.
