I’ve heard several times about a supposed ritual (spiritual, occult, or psychological) where a person symbolically “kills” their old self and is reborn as a new version of who they are. People say it can only be done once in a lifetime, and repeating it might bring serious consequences.

I don’t remember the exact name, but it involves a deep internal decision and a radical change — as if the person truly stops being who they once were (letting go of addictions, traumas, old behaviors, etc.). Some describe it as mystical, others more as a psychological process.

If anyone knows the name of this ritual, its origins, or has any articles or references about it, please share. I’ve been searching a lot but haven’t found anything solid.

That's just normal ego death, the illusion that you are an individual dies. It takes years of meditation because the beliefs have to be dissolved.

That makes sense what you said about ego death being the dissolution of the illusion of the individual. From what I remember, I’ve heard about this years ago but never really got to dive deeper. Could you explain more about this process? How does the dissolution of beliefs work and why does it take so long? I’d like to understand this practice better, especially if it’s related to any specific rituals or techniques.

This is imo the best book on the subject.

If you understand the ego as a word that means narcissism, selfishness, pride, it clarifies what it is. A person will accumulate resources for and through the ego, and as punishment his connection to spirituality is lost. The evil desries are of the ego.

The reason everyone is on the side of the ego is because this world of ego sets up synchronicities to reward you for going along with it. Tge ego creates tge system, and people pat you on the back for going along with it. The ego is a false personality that never shuts up. A person who starts questioning his thoughts will have a difficult life. But not as difficult as blindly reincarnating in samsara over and over, because there is an end to the ego.

Initiation. The word you're looking for is initiation. The way to get it is by joining a living initiatory magical tradition

It's simply called : the sacrifice or the transfiguration in the bible. This is the metaphorical process behind dying on the cross or the killing of the lamb to be reborn a new, like a new child : innocent.
In the Ars Goetia (occult practice), you kill the ego and attain the state of Adonai, then you embrace a new Ego (alter Ego) that align with whatever you want to achieve.
