I've been believing a bit more but a lot of that's because I fear death and non existence and I suffer a lot from existential dread and it's like a coping mechanism.
I think it's possible to know or believe these things like altruism in a atheist world or a theistic world other then Christianity

I do want to point something out though OP. Love can be punishment. Love can be justice. Sometimes to love is to put others before you, which means you will have to suffer for the well being of others.
