nice prism bro, lets call that a discrete lens. the material boundary creates the angular distribution of the lights refraction which is caused by the density variation of the material. however there is another kind of lens. a gradient lens. instead of a polygon of glass in a room imagine a high preassure region of air, it dose not have the discrete material distribution that causes the angular refraction, but it dose have the material density variation that dictates the refraction distribution range. and like the prism in the discrete lens. the earths atmosphere is a gradient lens if your geometer dose not accurately parse gradient refraction your world model will remain a simulation only.
