There is a creator of the material cosmos. That is not the creator of everything, the "main frame" of existence existed before (and is not created), it's the creation of a world realm (and there are many, probably) by a being or a force, and this being/force is in control of this world (not in control of everything, karma/causality is a fundamental law that can't be controlled by any force) and it's beings.
This creator is not only good or only bad. It created a world with good and bad elements. It was not even able to do different, as the fundamental duality of the reality-mainframe just has both. So the world that was created has the elements of good and evil, life and death, male and female, light and dark, etc.
The hinduist figure of Brahma fits most to that. Hinduist religious stories tell how Brahma created the first beings, and they were monsters and demons, and that was not Brahmas intention, he just wasn't able to do better in the beginning (then later he made better beings like humans and angels). And the "god" in control of/responsible for the world is Vishnu, in hinduist view, so Brahma is not a full-control force.
Sum-up: both religious stories, the all-good God and the all-evil demiurge, are not realistic. And this divine creating force is not in control of our life, that is a matter of our personal karma, and no cosmic force can control that.
