Mary was officially made the second most important person in Christianity in the Council of Ephesus in circa 450AD as part of the rejection of the Arian hersey. Basically they said Jesus was not man and God, the councils of the time, same as the popes today only issue rulings confirming existing doctrine.
As the Arian hersey was promoting new doctrine, they reconfirmed that Jesus was both fully man and fully God and as fully man and God, Mary as his mother was mother of God without which salvation coming into the world was not possible.
This is adhered to by all ancient churches, Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox and was even upheld by Luther and the original Protestants.
It's only in the 19th and 20th century that you really get, mainly American Protestants who's grasp on Christianity is light at best stating otherwise.
She is considered a powerful intercessor with Jesus for many scriptural reasons which I can go into but one small example is the wedding at Cana. For the queen of heaven but, read into the position of power the mother of the king of Israel had in the old testament. Solomons mother for example. Jesus being the king of kings means his mother is the same in terms of kings mother's.
Read what the ancient Church fathers who established Christianity had to say about her and not uninformed people in here who think they figured out Christianity 2000 years after the fact she contradict what the founders of Christianity actually say. History is where you find the truth, not did made up in the last 150 years
