I usually don't post here but this is how I learned it many years ago
start with a normal meditation routine, whatever that is to you, and first focus on your breathing and don't necessarily try to clear your mind, just let thoughts come and go without trying to hold onto them. after a few minutes, imagine a light source (it can be a lamp or light through a window, whatever) starting out dim and then over the course of several minutes you visualize it slowly getting brighter and brighter, and then at its zenith, the light becomes blindingly bright and it transports you. the key with this method is to not try to focus too hard on any one thing, you just relax and sort of lightly try to guide your meditation without forcing anything.
