I think it's because the spiritual world is very similar to the material one. People work and go to school, get married and have kids, live and die. Some people are rich while others are poor. The government is corrupt. There are cops and criminals. There are wars. Etc.

God wants to forgive you, but you have a choice: Do you choose the righteousness of God and be saved, or your own righteousness? Your own deeds, no matter how good you think they are, can NEVER justify you or keep you saved because of your sinful condition. Romans 5:9: “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, in what HE did for you. Only He can wash away all of your sins with His blood. Salvation is a gift, it can't be earned.
