My grandparents are dying. Going to visit and spend the night with them tonight so I'd like to maximize this in the short term. I realize there's nothing I can do to help them make it, but this is still important to me.
How do I maximize this for one night? I've got the rest of the day to prepare.

I didn't necessarily take his message as negative, but maybe I misunderstood. If one interprets death as a release of the soul (or at least release from pain) and is also completely unavoidable, then the release is the final act of healing.
