But any kind of detail is a struggle with brushes this simple, and tools that are common to image editing software are missing because Blender devs would rather work on fucking grease pencil.

In fact, saying fucking Photoshop isn't fair, because it wasn't that long ago when this was normal for some people, and it's still an easier way to work on textures than Blender.
You can do it, you shouldn't it. Blender's perfectly fine for 3D and even sculpting now, but don't take the texture painting too seriously if you value your time. You can make very simple designs in it, if you force yourself to use it, but you can do it much quicker elsewhere.
