are realtime renderers like unreal/eevee capable of pixar movie quality yet? is there any method for realtime raytracing that can rival movie production materials?

The short answer is no, the long answer is almost yes, but it requires a lot of tweaking and post processing to emulate things to that level.

I disagree. If you go back and look at older Pixar movies like the first Toy Story, the rendering technology is pretty primative. I think we can pretty much replicate that in real time now, especially since they didn't even have pbr back then.

its more of a both yes and no,

movies don't really use denoisers, at least not at this point in time, they brute forced everything and solved rendering with clusters of computers, look at modern gpus in quake rtx without a denoiser, cant be done in real time yet even for the most primitive of their renderings

HOWEVER, I would argue that even modern engines without raytraceing will look better than toy story 1 at the very least, possibly up through toy story 2 in that image, we could fake the casustics in finding nemo but getting fur to work real time is so retardedly demanding monsters inc its a non starter, incredibles relies quite alot on global illumination for its scenes, that it MAY be possible without raytracing but it would look better with it, cars would require raytracing but because of how everything is just shiney, it would be pretty doable at least if we also allowed a denoiser.

ratatouille may be doable if we had a few simple make it look fuzzy effects, but it would be a stretch to say its the same, anything passed walle though is just not doable real time without severe compromises.

I do believe if we allowed single frames to run for a second and then do the post we could probably get enough info from the raytracing to damn near equal the movies, however the hair/fur would be a non starter at least at movie quality just because of how retardedly complex it is to do.

This, you can save a lot of time and effort by getting a better PC and turning on cycles, even for stylized

The thing that makes Pixar movies look how they look isn't path tracing(which they started using in about 2017)

But the amount of artistic work, focusing on each animation, the lighting in each shot, the cinematography the compositing.

They are the driver behind the artistic quality. The render engine is only a small part of that puzzle.

I personally do think that Ratchet and clank rift apart, and to a somewhat lesser degree Astro Bot can visually rival a lot of pixars output(especially in terms of physics) despite running on a base PS5.

But they are still limited in terms of budget they can dedicate into each minute of run time.
