Can an entire /3/ rival an AAA studio if it were to collaborate together on a full shipped game? If we were to count the population of this board, we would end up with around 100-150 chuds. Enough manpower of 3D artists and project managers to attempt a try to collaborate together on a high quality game project, since AAA games are obviously bad, made by jeets and the bar to pass is extremely low.

You realize that half of us are like full spectrum psychopaths? How on earth do you envision we would ever work together on any sort of coherent vision.

Even if we somehow assembled what we'd end up making would've been some kind of abomination that never should've existed in this world.

Youre very optimistic. 5 out of 6 /3/ users have just ghosted me. If anyone could "make some kind of abomination that never should've existed in this world" theyd make millions of dollars.

Where is OP? Post in your own fucking thread why dont you?

hmm. yeah probably? we only need one guy to write shaders for the engine and everything else is just modelling texturing rigging and animating, right?

AAA games arent that fancily animated and complex models are just a matter of time so if that one shader guy can carry us we'd be okay

Heres the thing
Im kind of shit at everything, but i CAN rig and model and texture and animate. With an unlimited budget i can make something that looks good eventually. The edge flow will be ass and the keyframes will be all over the place, but to match a AAA studio it really just needs to import and run.

If i think about, say, the new god of war, the parts that make it fancy are just the ammount of work, and the particles and shaders. The animations and models really arent that special. If we have just one person who can do that stuff then the relatively useless people like me can do the grunt work, and that should get us most of the way there

All of them. In the end it's gotta export to what the engine wants. It's not 1999 anymore. Every software can export to every type now.

So I actually have a project started just this week. I tried to recruit a few anons in the wip thread. I got 1 polite refusal. 1 ghost, and 1 taker. The project is degenerate. An anthro futanari fast food service game. Gonna need models of characters, costumes, animations. Also models food, appliances, furniture, architecture. Workplace safety posters that have clever jokes written on them.

I hear you, I frankly am yielding to the changing times by using discord at all. I would prefer forum based communication.
The engine is unity
My current food list is:
>List of meshes needed for food objects
>Some items have multiple states. some common states are: Frozen, Raw, Cooked, Burnt, Rotten, Melted, and possibly unique states.
>Most states can be and should be achieved with a texture swap. If an item has states they will be listed.
>
>Churro: frozen, raw, cooked, burnt
>hotdog: frozen, raw, cooked, burnt
>HotdogBun: Empty, w / Dog, w / Ingredients(ketchup, mustard, relish, onions)((separate meshes that can be turned off, or layered shader))
>ice cream(in a cup): frozen, melted
>Beer bottle: Cold, warm, empty, broken
>MilkJug: Cold, warm, rotten, empty
>Soda Cup: Empty(no top), full / cold, full / warm
>
>TakeOutContainer: open, closed

Texture swap, material swap. It's fine any which way. The way I have the soda cup game object I just have a cup mesh, lid mesh, and a straw mesh. I reuse the meshes for the empty, full Cold, and full Warm states.
Sneaking sexual jokes into the food design and/or labeling is encouraged.

Agreed. Unnecessary razzle dazzle that forsnt make bad games good.
>good enough to be fun if we all play test
I think so too. But my project is niche and not everyone's into it. But I will say this, I'm trying to be funny. The premise of the game is a joke. My goal is that two handed players and one handed players both have fun.
>fuck discord
Agreed. I just don't know what else to use. I just made an itch.io account. I could make a dev thread on /3/ too invite people to join a la cart if they wish.

is this accessibility related ?

How do you get files from us ? Discord has a 8mb limit which complicates things a bit.
Have you considered using github also ?

Yes accessibility is very important to me.

I have a github. We have a prototype of the game cooking right now. My very cool compatriot made a sweet mirror reflection system.
When there's more to show I'll make a thread. The player avatar will be this week's project for me.

although, if you CAN blend between textures it makes the hot and cold versions pretty easy. you could slowly blend between them as food cooks too i guess.

Lol, no problem. Im not really comitted to the project, im just using this as an excuse to practice and give some direction to my creativity. If theres anything else you'd like i can give it a go, but i totally get it if you'd prefer to stick to the one getting things done faster and more reliably

The problem is management and organization. What happened here is that a small group of people did the bulk of the work; in that group, one person did the bulk of putting everything together.

You would have to do what AAA does, which is farm out to boutiques. You could encourage those to form here, I suppose. Groups of a dozen or less dudes and dudettes working together, all given a small portion of the game. But no one is getting paid, so however well-meaning, motivation will be inconsistent.
