Kamen Rider is fun. Wizard tends to be not liked as a show but it is overhated.
The guy who is writing Princession and who wrote Nyaruko is a big fan.
I bet even the chef idol character who is voiced by Nyrakuo's voice actress is also a reference to Gavv, the currently airing Kamen Rider (the motif is sweets/snacks).

If you want a show you will almost certainly like, start with Build or Gaim and just make sure to give it a chance all the way through. If you like it, just watch whatever stands out to you from Heisei but avoid Zi-O and Decade because they are anniversary shows. Kuuga and Agito are also best watched in order.

Only shows that are kind of meh from Heisei or don't end well/have a bad rep are

Funny that you say that because I am currently watching it and not enjoying it at all save for gold, yellow, and green who are the only good parts. I hate red, think blue and pink are boring. Villains are okay though, not amazing. Also the crossover was from a rider that is bad (decade). Best Sentai for me is Gekiranger, Donbrother, Kyoryuger, and King Ohger so far but I've barely seen much.
Build is very good for sure. Especially if you like more serialized shows.

It has a bunch of issues though, objectively speaking. The last 10 episodes come out of nowhere practically, and the show is kinda boring before Ryu shows up, and the main villain just kind of lets the protagonist live tons of times even though he has no reason to.
The whole gimmick is partner work/buddy cop stuff and honestly other riders do it better. OOO comes right after and it does it way better, Kuuga does it better, Build does it better, etc.
The middle of the season when Ryu shows up until the last arc is really good, but the rest of the show has some big flaws that people barely seem to talk about.

Nacchi is jealous of Minamo because Minamo lives a blessed life and she wishes they could trade places. Even before becoming a princess its clear Nacchi is jealous of Minamo's above average income lifestyle. Nacchi is the one always picking up Minamo, never the other way around. Nacchi probably lives in a dump with a bunch of siblings while Minamo lives a luxurious life with her high earner parents.

Once Nacchi realizes that not only was Minamo blessed in the real world but also Alicepia by becoming a princess she's gonna blow a fuse. Nacchi spends all that time and effort practicing to be a better performer and doing street performances even after being assaulted NOT ONCE BUT TWICE. Once the reveal happens she's gonna have a breakdown and vow to tear Minamo limb from limb.

Shotaro and Philip's charisma and the detective plots are dynamic enough to carry it, sure a lot of episodic at first but it's a good type of episodic with each moment and plot thread having momentum towards a resolution, even in OOO while you have some great episodic stories in some moments you're just kinda waiting for something to happen, W is very tight in that sense.

I still recommend W to Precure fans because it's an easy transition and has a good balance of stylish and wacky, even if I do prefer shows like Kuuga or Build in the long run, W does a hell of a good first impression and I think for beginners a first impression is important.

I disagree but I recognize I'm in the minority there. The entire time for W I was waiting for stuff to happen, then it did for a bit in the middle, then the end completely disappointed me. The family kept jobbing and posturing so I never really saw them as a real threat.
And I like Shotaro a teeny bit, but Phillip is flat out boring in my view. He is just more boring Sento from Build. Fuuto PI made W so much better (so far) in my view regarding characterization.

My main issue is that even though they are detectives Shotaro can barely solve any cases on his own, then you look at other rider series where they can so he just kind of comes off as incompetent without Phillip's powers kind of carrying him. Also I don't find them terribly charismatic. They have a couple moments, like I remember the gambling episode as a stand out, but only when Ryu shows up for them to bounce off of and add drama with the "is Shotaro really the best partner for Phillip" subplot do I think the show really makes them likable and gets good. Then it squanders it by the end.

I watched W way before Build (I did production order), so Philip did feel quite unique from my POV. I like their dynamic including the asshole bits but I guess that's a hard part to argue since it's a matter of taste at the end.
As for "real threat", that's fair enough but I still think they were charismatic in their own right. I don't judge villains solely based on threat level though having charisma and threat is certainly something that I wouldn't complain.

I don't even think the finale is the type that ruins what good the show had, it just isn't as epic as it could've been (which desu isn't something exclusive to W), I do think the post-series media ends in a better note even if the focus shifts to other characters. (by post-series I mean the live-action ones that came out right after, Fuuto Pi is a great sequel too but I put it in a different category because of the time gap).

Den-O with the Imagins was better (even if they also bring in a literal who at the end), Kuuga was better, and Blade was better. Still going through Showa so can't say on that front, but I just found that their partnership wasn't really that special compared to other Heisei or even some Reiwa shows like Gavv. It's not like Shotaro even has to have him alongside to become W, the finale shows that he can just become a rider anyway.

Anyway, the family had potential but for some reason they tossed them out for the random bad guys at the end when they could have done so much more with them.
I don't get why W gets a pass for that by so many people but Hibiki doesn't, they practically do the same thing and I have the same problem with them but honestly I enjoyed Hibiki much more before the writer change whereas when I saw W twice I only really got into it after Ryu showed up.

I think it does. The whole show is partially built on finding out who Phillip is and his relation to his family and then they speedrun it only to being in some random guy at the end.
Not even getting into the fact that Phillip dies twice and is brought back twice either, which is really silly in my view.
Also this is just personal taste but I really hate the W suit.

I hope Princession makes more modern rider references, I am convinced the baking idol was one because of Gavv in addition to being a Nyaruko one since the two are basically inseperable, but who knows.

Various myths and folklore from all around the world have often spoken of ancient weapons with hidden supernatural powers. Impossible to produce with today's technology, they exist as crystallized forms of heretical technology (black arts) that are being excavated from ruins and other locations.

Due to the passing of time these artifacts have been exposed to much deterioration and damage. Even through large excavation projects, finding pieces that are completely intact is incredibly rare. Therefore, in most cases, only "relic fragments" have been recovered.

Relics that are in a grounded state can shift into an active state through the power of song, thereby releasing their inner power.

I'm rewatching season1 with friends which is where they go over this. Basically the necklaces contain only a shard of the original relic. The necklaces job is to resonate with the phonic gain of the wielders song. It uses this energy to break down the shard of the relic into energy which it reconstructs into the Symphogear armor. This is why they are required to sing the entire time to maintain functionality. If the wielder stops or their phonic gain dips their armor loses power and they become vulnerable. Generally only one person can use a given necklace but there are a couple of exceptions. The necklace tunes itself to the wielder and has 301,655,722 locks on it which require training or gumption to unlock. Some wielders require performance enhancing drugs to even wear their symphogear but the traffic light girls are all naturally or unnaturally talented at it.

Additionally there are complete Relics which are all dormant but can be activated once they absorb enough phonic gain to recharge their proverbial batteries. Complete Relics can be wielded by anyone and require no song.

Only 7 necklaces were ever made and after season 1 it's unlikely anymore can be made.
