Named characters in One Piece generally have infinite survivability in the face of any kind of attack or damage, outside of flashbacks and a few exceptions. Terrain is usually not afforded the same privilege, simple as. If not for that de facto immortality afforded to the characters then they'd all be dead, and even Luffy would've been instantly vaporized by Enel's lightning as there's no rubber in existence that wouldn't be under actual physics.

It's weird how much of this sequence I'd forgotten. Everything in this section of the arc, including Jimbe doing ship surfing is the pinnacle of the post-TS stuff up to this point. Brook gets some great showings here, and the fact that he was already defeated by Big Mom before makes this so much better.
This also makes Big Mom being defeated by Law and Kidd later so much more plausible. She's really top tier because of her giga high durability, her raw power isn't nearly as high as Kaido's though still very strong, but she makes up for that with her abilities. She's too reliant on her homies, and lacks speed, and fight IQ. She was almost defeated by an arena out here, but then later against Law and Kidd she's defeated for the same reason. Perhaps Big Mom is weaker and stupider here because she's so famished, but the same defects exist later. I don't know why brainlets felt her death made her look bad. She's been consistently portrayed as being ultra ultra tough but easy to attack and vulnerable to arena strategies the entire time. Oda claimed a big punch wouldn't be enough to defeat Kaido but he was obviously fibbing. Big Mom's defeats show her actually being outsmarted, which is a better story. Sadly Luffy can't outsmart foes, because the very nature of his character means Oda has written himself into the corner of only having the big bad be defeated with a big punch, and then only side characters like Brook or Law can outsmart opponents.

Despite all the confirmed deaths in Wano, I dont see them dying, even if they deserve to die and were given a fitting death. Besides it being two wholly separate islands the SBS didn't specify any details (as far as I remember), but the PH arc we got was presumably longer than one of those would've been on their own, but shorter than they would've been together as two arcs instead of just the one merged PH arc that we got. My assumption is that the fire half would've been the first island (maybe called Risky Red?), and that Caesar would still be on the snowy gas island which was probably Punk Hazard proper. Maybe Vergo would've been moved to the fire island as its arc's antagonist, or maybe there was a cut antagonist we never got to see, I don't know. I don't know how far he had planned out the separate arcs either before it was decided to merge them into one instead in order to try and cut out a bit on the manga's length.

before i read one piece i thought gear four was the ugliest, stupidest power up in any shonen anime. now its one of my favorites. yeah its weird looking and kind of goofy, but it stands out in that way, and makes it perfect for a character like luffy. i know some people prefer snake man to bound man because it's "cooler," but i just love the big rubber ball, especially how he can't even stand on his own two feet because of how inflated he is

this is why I don't get why people rank this fight as one of the best in the series. Luffy just eats attacks all days und he looks busted but it doesn't seem to affect him really, he just keeps going. The damage he receives compared to the damage he inflicts on Katakuri is also way off, it makes Katakuri look kind weak.
