Kira Kira Precure A La review 7!

I didn't hate it, but it was the much needed back story to Pastry Mountain or whatever.

Everyone is in the bakery with Ichika, Himari, and Aoi working away at donuts. While working its revealed that Yukari did know all along who Akira was and got a second showing of Ichika's crashouts. With Ichika fully distracted their doughnuts fail and nearly break Aoi's teeth. Its revealed Ichika forgot the baking powder, but everyone had so much fun the old man(ghost) shares the story of the bakery. A long few weeks ago, on a not too distant mountain, fairies line cooked the hell out of some doughnuts. The newest member, Pekorin, being the usual messup. No matter they all had their doughnuts in the and everything was bliss, until the Kira-kira gobblers attacked. In order to stop these voracious munchers the old man whips out an umbrella and explodes all the kira-kira, leaving the nearby town covered in his old man cream. This story depresses Pekorin and she goes to hide. Ichika has an idea and shoos everyone away and begins making bad doughnuts. The awful smells scare Pekorin to falling into Ichika's clutches where she beings trying to get Pekorin to help make doughnuts. Ichika almost fails again, but Pekorin remember the baking powder. Slowly this bald clown of a fairy stops being blue eared, and jumps for joy when Ichika shows her how to decorate the finished doughnuts. But they can't eat them yet! Ichika and pekorin scale the Pastry mountain and offer the doughnuts to the old, destroyed bakery where Ichika is treated to a vision of Fairies at work. But the MoTW is here for some doughnut munching. Whip steps up for a solo round, and when she is beat back, everyone catches her, chiding her that they never left her to be the only one to cheer up Pekorin. After quick work of the MoTW, the girls are back to the Bakery, where Ichika announces she wants to open Kirakira Patisserie! Cooking Lesson? YOU'RE TOO DUMB FOR DOUGHNUTS. DUMMY.

I expected Pekorin would be a bit of a goofball, especially with it being an episode focused on her and the lore dumping, but all the comedy was within the first couple of minutes.

Thinking about it, and this episode might be more of a common trope in Precure. Take the main fairy and drop all the serious lore about them, and show why they are so funny to everyone. Take Aroma for example with his butler episode and just constantly failing, but I was way more invested in that.

One thing that did get a laugh out of me was this line. The previous scene was Ichika telling everyone she had everything handled, and then she complains no stuck around. I stopped it right there and was like: "This fucking bitch shoos everyone away and has the gall to complain?" HC starting with a cold open of Moonlight VS Dark Precure and then the Tsubomi and Erika dynamic is pretty great honestly, it's one of the reasons I feel confident about recommending the show to tourists, some shows like GoPri are great in the long run but I don't think cause as good of a first impression, which might turn away some potential fans (because people have low patience like that).

Honorable mentions:
Doki and HaCha have a great first impression in isolation.
I was extremely hyped about Hugtto at the time because we got physical action back.
Hirogaru Sky has a really great intro with the whole chase parkour, the heroic parts in the second half are well-done too. Hell even the fart was so unexepcted for Precure that I couldn't help but laugh out loud.

ST would definitely be my top, but I'm extremely biased towards space. I think HC, Doki, GoPri, Hugtto, HG, and Idol would comprise the rest of my top 7, not in any particular order. HC has the very memorable opening with Moonlight (and as the season with the most consistently good CQC, the first episode doesn't disappoint), Doki, GoPri, Hugtto, and HG introduce their lead really well (that does mean you need to like the lead to like those intro episodes, I suppose, but I love all 4 and I'd say my first impression of them in their first episode is a big reason why) with GoPri and Hugtto having particularly notable fights, and ST has well, space and punching in space.
Kimi to Idol's might have had just made a strong impression on me since the year before had no CQC, but I really like how high energy and fast paced it is overall as both comedic moments and the occasional solemn moment came in at a brisk pace. Also, the first time you see how the the finisher for the season works definitely makes an impression especially since it's at the end of an already frantic episode.

It's so weird to see a character promoted outside of the show so hard only to have barely any presence within it. I'd say my main problem with him right now is that he's supposedly important enough to be in the op, get merch, and even a song but has only substantially interacted with Uta. I was curious how Kokoro, being a Cure Idol and Cure Wink fanatic, would react to a "legend idol" only for that to just not happen.
I don't think they are going for the Kaito/Uta route. It is true that he only interacts with Uta and they have that toy bundle, but if the main goal was to make that the romantic endgame, they would have interacted more by now. I know Kanata from GoPri didn't do that much in the first half, but he definitely had a noticeable presence by the midseason arc whereas Kaito is almost hilariously seemingly irrelevant to the current midseason arc.
The core relationship of the season seems to be Uta/Purirun instead since that was established since episode one and is the current focus. It's not impossible for Kimi to Idol to swing back to het after getting so deep into the yuri(bait) swamp, but I think they would have teased something like that in the most recent interview (just like how the Wonderful people said that they were going to do a romance story, and no one really believed them). Other than Uta/Purirun drama, the interview teased a growing friendship between Nana and Kokoro (which would be the summer episodes if I had to guess, but who knows).

When I first get them I do, but honestly a lot of them don't have much outside of lights/sounds so I have some on display and some tucked away in their original packaging. The ones with mini games (pinky catch/rose pact and some of the later season items with game modes) I spend more time fiddling with.

There's literally no proof that Kiseki no Unison is even the name of a song and the episode is right after Purirun's memory picnic episode so it most likely has something to do with Zukyuun and Kiss more than any group finisher.
Most we're going to get in the way of new songs in the 2nd half of the show is if they play the new character songs in the background in some quick still shot live performance the cures have at some point, like they played Kaito's song during his first appearance real quick. But there's only going to be one new finisher song or maybe a 2nd one for the final battle if Toei's feeling really generous.

I doubt Zukyuun and Kiss are getting a 2nd duo finisher 5 episodes after the first. Egao no Unison is Uta's song, so she's likely involved in Kiseki no Unison as well. The episode is also airing when it's about time to switch to ED 2. Maybe ED 2 is also a trio like Trio Dreams except with Idol, Zukyoon, and Kiss instead of the original trio.
It's still possible that Kiseki no Unison isn't a finisher at all and is just used as an insert song instead, which would still mean only one new group finisher song in the 30's or so.

I really liked Max Heart. Hikari's just way too cute and all of her episodes are pretty great, among the best in my opinion. The only thing that bothered me were the episodes that just straight up used the same plot points as epidodes from FW. They still have a little bit of individuality so it wasn't that jarring, but some of them felt like a complete waste of time.
