I know Gardes are very feature-packed, but I imagine they quickly threw these together for this one rescue. Then again, R&D seems to think of everything so maybe it's optional equipment they keep in storage in case a mission ever calls for it. It wouldn't make much sense for it to be standard built-in equipment for older Gardes when we're shown they can barely operate under planetary gravity (granted, that depends on the planet).
