I guess this is a young people issue. Usually the older an anime fan get the wider its scope becomes and starts enjoying anime from different time periods. I was 19 when the first Fullmetal Alchemist was all the rage and Haruhi became my bible for a long time but eventually I started watching a lot of the anime I missed when I was a kid because TV only had the Dragon Ball/Sailor Moon and a few other gems. I think it's immature to stick only to a single decade of shows.

When I was in high school 5 years ago, one time during lunch one of the special needs kids with actual autism was going around the cafeteria showing everyone a picture on his phone saying it was his wife.
