It was never suggest he was romantically in love with her, it was suggest that he could have potentially married her and it was suggested she had budding feelings for him. But this manga doesn't read like the kind of writing which treats love as something simple and easy come, if he had pursued her when they were tentatively being set up it might have grown in to romantic love but as it is they had a platonic kind of love and a master/servent and almost sibling like relationship.

When it was conceived she and the father were more 'in love' that anything else presented in the manga. The fact the father was later a dick doesn't change the fact they had a genuine passionate fling of a courtship. Ultimately her character mostly exists to be an influence on Bard.

Also I genuiely wonder who could be interested in the cooking and eating parts of this manga. I must be some Japanese thing that goes completely over my head because I can't imagine anything more idiotic and boring that a fictional character gushing meaninglessly over fictional fantasy world food. I enjoy this as a fun adventure story with a rare mature protagonist and old-school manly sensibilities.

There's not really much rush, unfortunately. You'd do well to wait until the English official releases (volume 1 on the 24th IIRC) catch up to the scanlations so you don't just suddenly reach the end of available chapters and have to wait ages like us poor faggots. It's a great manga though, certianly worth reading. Feels like a labor of love from the mangaka; and indeed he has apparently been drawing the characters and thinking of the setting, and likely the plot in rough draft, for a long time before drawing it as manga or it being serialized.

WN spoilers:Bard was in love with her and secretly tried to propose after she came back to Tersia with her child but she rejected him because if Windellan won and became king it would compromise Joulran's status as prince. His feelings are partly why he's so pissed off at Windellan for leaving her alone, but he ends up dying before Bard can complain to him in person.

At the end of the story she's happily reunited with Windellan in the afterlife and Bard angrily shouts that he'll be joining them soon.
