Last episode was so bad it felt like the script was a first draft.
>Ponko's brother making a plate for the grandmother wasn't even set up and we had no idea what he was working on so the ending didn't land properly.
>The vase, despite receiving special attention, was just used as a weapon by Ponko's husband and the alien's attention to detail didn't matter at all
>The bomb candy wasn't properly resolved and was taken care of offscreen.
It feels like the vase, plates, brother and alien were all supposed to connect at the end, but they just didn't.

I don't hate it, I like it. But I don't know how you can love it either. It's doing a lot of things right, but it doesn't tug at my heartstrings at all. I can see the studio, director and scriptwriters having fun, but I don't feel any strong emotions behind it. Feels more like experimenting for fun rather than putting your soul into the work.

All are red herrings for the mystery of why the ant eater died. They don't connect because they aren't supposed to. Its easily this shows most well written episode.

>>Setup on the first scene when the brother was with the family
No it wasn't.
We had no idea he was making a plate for the grandmother at all so the scene where he finally finishes it at the end falls completely flat.
>>Vase was used to expose terrorist evil nature and love for destruction
It could've easily been said to be made by the brother and actually connect to that subplot. I'm very surprised they didn't do this as it feels so painfully obvious. They also have the detective admire the brother's plates in the same manner making it feel like there was supposed to be a connection.
>>The green was just candy. The red may get used later on
They have Ponko's daughter be about to find it then just hard cut away and never bother actually resolving it. It's extremely sloppy.
The show forgetting to set up the brother's subplot and the bomb not being resolved aren't red herrings and I don't think you know what a red herring actually is.

*When the brother wasn't with the family

>brother's subplot and the bomb not being resolved aren't red herrings
yea, the bomb isn't a red herring. Its just there to confirm that the terrorist is absolutely a really bad dude and comically blow the scale out of proportion.
>Ponko's daughter be about to find it then just hard cut away and never bother actually resolving it.
She eats it in that scene and we get another shot shortly after of her happily chewing it up. Its just candy. Maybe they'll save the red one the terrorist never gave away for future episodes.
>It could've easily been said to be made by the brother
This was shown by having both ant eaters stop and appraise the pieces.
>actually connect to that subplot
The connection is that pottery made by the brother was a potential cause of death. The existence of the subplot and the placement of the scenes is suspicious until the end of the episode. Its just an answer to why the brother wasn't with the family.

They don't resolve the fact that she was about to find the red one and kill everyone. All of that is resolved offscreen which is the whole issue.
>>This was shown by having both ant eaters stop and appraise the pieces.
Too bad that connection went absolutely nowhere and was utterly irrelevant. The exact thing I've been complaining about.
>Its just an answer to why the brother wasn't with the family.
The brother's subplot was terrible and had no emotional appeal because we had no idea what he was making and we had no reason to believe the grandmother was interested in some random plate (they could have actually set this up last episode when she died). This is what I'm complaining about.
This episode had some of the worst writing and bizarre decisions of the entire series so far.
I won't be replying after this as you seem a bit dumb and having to explain the same thing over and over is tiresome.

what journal logs has Ponko been writing since 2207 (date as of episode 3)? the first episode states it's the year 2157 so who knows how long humanity has disappeared. and episode 10 has it been 527 since they met, making it the year 2734. remember there was a 50 year gap between episodes 2 and 3.

It wouldn't have been as badly received if it was just the cute tanuki loli. But the entire family as a whole is insufferable and ruins the vibe they'd set up in the first episodes. This should've been a show about the guest of the week. It would've worked but they weren't confident in that and made it about some fucking rodents.

I think the whole "will humans ever return?" was a flawed premise from the start. It's not very interesting and is easily made weaker by having non human guests who act basically human as you say. Humans should've been regular guests, gradually hinting and expanding on what became of humanity after. You can still have your suspense on whether the manager will return or something.

Apocalypse Hotel unironically has the same problem as Lazarus. The events of the episode are generally fine, but there's a dissonance created by the premise for seemingly no reason. The whole "robots slowly decaying while waiting for humanity as aliens stop by" stuff from the beginning doesn't matter anymore. So I wonder why they bothered including it to begin with

It reminds me of Bravern's start.
You have a fairly standard military show for most of the first episode then quickly switch it up for a goofy fun robot at the end. Even that risks putting people off as the people who enjoy the goofy robot only see two minutes of it while the ones who like grounded military action hate what the show will become. Fortunately Bravern does the change before the first episode is even complete so it shouldn't put too many people off.
Apocalypse Hotel is the same thing but 100x worse. Spending two entire episodes baiting the audience with something you aren't going to keep delivering is a terrible idea.

Some weird allergies to flash photography, tanuki germs, or being vulnerable to the same virus humans are. The first and last don't seem to really work because the detective Greedo pulls out a photo of the terrorist Greedo, and they probably would have noticed if they were suffocating/dying to the air well before they hit the bucket. Tanuki germs feels like the lamest explanation but is also the only one that can't really be refuted even if there's no evidence towards it either.

The show feels like it's gone down hill. Apparently a lot of people really like the episode where Yachiyo fell back to Earth, and Ponko had taken over the hotel? It marked a notable decline in quality for me. Felt like two episodes crammed together, and it looked like it was attempting to show a serious shift in Yachiyo's character, with her new essentially being disabled... Except she was back to normal in the next episode.

And yeah. The amount of tanuki focus really has been draining. I feel a little bait and switched. Like the director was uncertain he could make robots compelling.

I don't mind the idea of the hotel actually growing and becoming successful. I get what they're essentially going for. Creating a multi-generational family and dynamic. But I dunno. It's not working for me as much as I think they intend it to. I don't even know why I have this gut feeling dislike for the tanukis, since they're essentially just Japanese humans at this point. The shit stuff lasted only an episode.
