I actually followed along with KnJ back when it was still going and always thought it was just a good story. In-general it's a manga with a bunch of endearing qualities like Watashiya's penchant for dressing her characters up in new outfits. The "bad" chapters are usually like 7/10 at worst and I think there's a solid pacing to the drama.
What was disappointing was when the moral panic got the English adaptation cancelled. She had personally picked out the name "Nymphet" for the English release and Seven Seas Los Angeles was gonna publish it (I think a few copies even got onto Amazon for a minute) before people found out about muh pedo anime and it was cancelled. Watashiya's editor was like "don't bring this up" so naturally she made a blogpost about it in which she called American readers "commendable" and asked someone to mail her a copy of Nymphet.
This was nearly 2 decades before post-COVID muh Epstein Diddy Ayo Why This Anime Sus was a thing, too.
