I rewatched Frontier a couple months ago for the first time since I first watched it in 2009. All I remembered was that I liked Ranka more than Sheryl. In my rewatch, Ranka never stood a chance. It's hardly a love triangle. Alto is so dismissive of Ranka. He treats her as just an acquaintance. He only cares about her at a surface level. Sheryl gets way more intimate moments with Alto. Sheryl also has lots more in common with Alto than Ranka. The two have actual chemistry and get along with similar experiences. Ranka has none of that. She's just a girl Alto knows.

I still like Ranka, but I feel bad for how little she actually does. Everyone around her is controlling her life. She has no agency and is just being used by everyone. Even her decision to run away was ultimately planned by Grace. The movie does fix this by letting Ranka actually make her own decisions and drive the plot.

Delta anime is much worse than Frontier, but it compensates with really fun music. The anime is just advertisement for the music and it shows
