It's a message. Logia get cocky due to their ''immortality'' so they don't feel to need to keep up anymore. Crocodile is the biggest example of haki decay after losing his spirit.
If you are strong and have a plan you can make incredible use of a Logia, even if it doesn't allow you to dodge.
