Comedy with serious elements didn't work because you don't know if it's a serious situation or a joke. If it was a dark story with comedy and romance elements to lighten things up it could've worked. Also missing nudity.

Reddit really liked it from what I saw, but Japan didn't care much about it at all. Barely any talk on Twitter or 5ch, and 2chan didn't really care for it much at all. It seemed to be more popular and better-received in the West than in Japan, and I don't know why.

I think there just isn't enough of an audience for this kinda manga in Jump right now. Romance is always either front and center cutesy stuff or totally irrelevant side plot to an action shounen nowadays. I think it would've lived as a digital only series.

Tsutsui seems to have been avoiding drawing ecchi since Kosaki-chan. Bokuben didn't even have pantyshots until the routes. I guess him holding back backfired and being so tame backfired, and even the hot spring chapter was too little too late. Meanwhile, Hima-Ten has done occasional lewds and is doing way better.

I'm not so keen on the confirms a winner but fails to properly commit to that confirmation ending. it's well written enough but that sort of half cop out feels weird
For a moment I was actually worried they were gonna do a harem ending, glad it was just a setup for a joke, but I feel I had valid reason to be worried given several jump things have recently had sudden polygamy, and I feel partially responsible for cheering for it when Xenoblade did it
Lulu should have won

Must be weird for the author completing a big romance series that is able to get each girl their own route, moving to a new series that is still in the romance area (unlike 5toubun -> Sentai) and it end up getting cut before reaching chapter 30. Maybe he'll move away from romance and try something new.

You may also bring reborn up as it sat as a comedy for like a year until it eventually branched out into action
One thing is slowly building it up and another one is trying from the get go. A comedy series needs to first be a good comedy then it can build up into becoming more action-focused. Trying both things at once requires lots of skill

I have seen some negative comments/posts even in Western online circles, but they're the minority unlike in Japan. I am seeing some talk about it on Japanese Twitter today (search "シドクラフト"), but it seems to be mostly because it ended.

I think one issue with Syd is that it could never stand on its own. Even in this very thread, you keep seeing people comparing it to Bokuben, rather than Syd having its own identity. While comparisons are inevitable given that the author is a veteran with a previous successful work, if all people could do is discuss the series in comparison to an older one, then that's not good. Even Ayakashi Triangle was sort of able to stand on its own eventually and not everyone talked about or compared it to TLR by the end of its run.

My memory is not great, but I think for Bokuben it was:
>Foom
>Sensei
>Senpai
>Uruka's tanlines
>Rizu
As for Syd Craft, the story and the characters weren't yet developed enough for me to develop a clear ranking, but I guess:
>Elio
>Lulu's lulus
>Soufflé
>Misery
>Inventor fake-imouto (her design was still pure sex, too bad she didn't have time to develop her character as much as she had developed her chest)
I'm kind of shocked that I basically ended up picking Fumino in both cases, I'm not even a flatfag. Maybe I put my personal liking for the girl on the same level as how I would like her arc (as it looks like in my head) itself.
For example Asumi is the farthest from my taste in Bokuben, but I liked her plot angle and I really wanted her to succed with her family work, so she ended up third in my list regardless. Rizu was a bit boring by the end and lost all of her momentum, but at the beginning I thought she was also a very strong contender.
Frankly I liked all the girls one way or the other, in both manga.

>no more clumsiness
just trauma dumping, lore dumping, and you only get a bit of the aforementioned bits after all is said and done in the last 6 pages or so of the final chapter. So are people here gonna continue reading Jump or pick up other series, or are you all gonna quit reading Jump and/or go into hibernation?

I'm reading both, but I must be in the minority since it seems like most Syd fans here don't. And the few who do seem to prefer Syd to Himaten.

I read both, but Himaten really is boring and bland.

Next time he should try an MC that is incompetent. Would've been much more fun if all of Syd's deductions were dead wrong and the side characters have to help to keep up his facade.

This was actually the first jump series I've read in 2 years. It low-key restarted my interest in shit from the magazine as it got me to pick up Hima-Ten too and afterwards I'll catch up toBlue Box. Maybe check out some of the newish manga like the one by the act age author, and catch up on One Piece and MHA.

I read both too. I see Hima-Ten as a diet Nisekoi (and Nisekoi was diet love Hina anyway).
