I'm a little shocked at how boring this turned out. Like I'm genuinely less impressed with it then I was Red Hood. There's some really boring personalities on display and the world itself doesn't feel very interesting either. This author seems a little too obsessed with making an RPG adventure type manga.

The kingdom is not just a single city but a nation that's expanding its borders by invading its neighbors. Its borders probably used to be much further away because otherwise this village would have already been invaded a long time ago since it's basically right next door.

It was established in the chapter that the villagers didn't even have food and mead, i.e. they're poor. Destitute peasants don't have the money to just move wherever they want. They also didn't know or expect that anyone was coming to help them, hence why they had agreed to just go raid the neighboring village to save their own. The guy the kids met even told them to avoid the village entirely. How are you having so much trouble following a story intended for Japanese teenagers?
