This thread is for discussing anime during the oldfag era of /a/: 2003 - 2009. What was your best experience watching an anime with /a/?

I'm a newfag so Toradora was the first I watched with /a/, IIRC. It was fun because of old fashioned sub waits and the fact we were mostly dumb teenager to early 20s. I had a comfy battlestation in my room and spent 10hrs a day on /a/. There were no real generals then so the whole board felt like one living cesspit.

But when I was lurking previous to that the entire board was FULL of chode goose. Like every thread was spinzaku spam and shit. That was something else.

when I first joined I watched very little cgdct and was immediately told to fuck off until I had finished Azumanga Daioh. fantastic show, Sakaki-san was such a cutie. From then to color wars, hsotd, and amagami what a rollercoaster.

I missed that. I'm a newfag and I came here in late 2008, but I was completely new to anime so I was just lurking and checking out threads of older shows. I was only watching older stuff that was on those "before you make a recommendation thread, watch these" etc images that were floating around. By 2010 I started watching shows with /a/. Waiting for the last episodes of Bakemonogatari, Katanagatari, Heartcatch Precure, Strike Witches S2, Amagami, Angel Beats and the Haruhi movie are some of the memorable stuff that come to mind.

Sora no Woto was the first anime where I actively followed the threads on /a/. Looking back, anons may have been reading a bit much into the show's world-building, but it sure did make the watching experience a lot more fun. Shame the subsequent shows in the Anime no Chikara timeslot couldn't match Sora no Woto in terms of interest.

I'm a 2013 reddit newfag scum, but I still miss the Naruto bans, the authenticity of the memes, the eloquence in the anon posts I'd read at the time.

34, no kids. Started here in 2006 but stopped regularly coming in 2011. I just like the Tower Dungeon threads nowadays and lurk occasionally to get a feel for the current state of things. Age doesn't stop you from enjoying your hobbies/interests. I'll always read manga and I think anonymous images boards are very valuable in today's internet.

Unfortunately it looks like the future of /a/ is the same as all other boards: A slew of janny curated generals with the rest of the board being off topic discussion and shitposting. They've been trying to really push this hard lately, there's all sorts of off topic multiple day old threads frequently, there's an off topic /tv/ thread right now. I think 4chan is just going to be some fake and gay ghost of itself going forward.

Not a diss or anything, it's just that it's very common to have people start insulting you and being toxic in conversations here (which is understandable since tons of people here have shitty lives and are frustrated also are anonymous) and with getting older and everything I don't think I'd be as tolerant to that as I am now. Also it's not really a good site to browse if you have kids since the place really isn't kids friendly. I don't know if the alternatives (twitter / reddit / discord / tiktok) are any better though.

Fair and valid. The older I get the less I care about the inflammatory discourse. It conveys a feeling/opinion in its most raw form (often hidden behind layers of irony). Reddit and Twitter are definitely more "civilized" but I hate the sort of ad hominim arguments attacking people for their profile or previous posts.
