Carrying that over to the fantastical is difficult, but a determined fighter should always be able to tear down even the strongest opponent with the right application and ability.

Okay, after reading this fight again, I can say I like it. Magna needed that victory after spending most of the series playing second fiddle to other characters and gettins so cucked with things like the Royal Knights selection or the Heart kingdom training, and the fight was very Magna-like with some raw as hell panels and a nice fist fight. Felt very inspiring in a way.
That being said, it also killed any credibility it could have about Dante being a competent antagonist. Dude had it rough by losing against Asta, but this has turned him into an absolute clown. I felt bad for him at times because I know he wasn't gonna win, that would have ruined Magna's glorious moment, so he had to be sacrificed for that.
I am impressed by the fact the author sacrificed the main antagonist of the arc like this, but I guess Dante was a red herring all along, Lucifero will possibly take that role from now on.
Also, I'm disappointed Jack didn't manage to do anything by the end, his big power up ended up being useless and then he had to stay down so Magna could fight Dante. In a series where team fights are used a lot and characters who wouldn't perform well in 1 on 1 fights can shine thought teamwork it's a shame a captain of all characters had to be the one getting robbed of a satisfying fight, but it is what it is.

That said, let's continue with the rest of the volume. In expect great things from Noelle this time.

Now that the fight is over, I think this has become my favorite battle in Black Clover so far. I was praying for a big Noelle victory ever since the shadow palace and now I feel that Noelle has finally recovered from that. Granted, she didn't do it alone, and that made everything even better. Cool spreads, great teamwork and a glorious last intervention from Nozel to finally solve the whole Silva conflict and close one of the longest subplots so far in the manga. When Vanica was defeated early on I was disappointed, but once Megicula took center stage it was a great moment after great moment, culminating in a Silva combo that finally avenged Acier. I have few if any bad things to say about this fight, from the moment it started from the moment it ended it was simply kino.
On another hand, I feel sad seeing Megicula go. When she was first mentioned I thought she would be the main antagonist of the arc (all thanks to that mistranslation who said she ruled the Spade), and a part of me feels that she could have been a great antagonist for an arc rather than being another enemy more in this one full of strong villains. Heck, now that I remember, Gordon's family seemed to be affiliated with Megicula in some way, but that never was elaborated upon, and with Megicula gone now, I doubt it will be.
With this I imagine Noelle's role in the arc has come to an end. But I'm not complaining, unlike in the elf arc this really felt like a super boss fight, and I'm glad she got her chance to shine after all of this. See you all tomorrow.

Dorothy said that the knowledge of curse magic came from Megicula, it's very likely Gordon's ancestors were one of the first to make a pact/contract with Megicula to learn and apply her secrets.

Oh nice, we got to this volume, now I can finally post my autism chart for the Vanica-related sections. I wanted to do one for the Yuno/Zenon sections and Dante sections too since I like the themes presented in those fights even more, but at the time when someone was arguing with me about how Spade wasn't good and blabla we happened to be talking about this fight I think.

I can see some people not liking it if they wanted more twists and story like in the elf arc, but they fail to see how character-driven this arc is, and how it really drives home the main theme of the manga and how it contrasts with the devils.

Thank you! I don't think I'll do it for Dante and Zenon... but even without a 'tismchart, i just hope i showed a few fun kinds of examples that can be found (of course i'm sure lots of these were already evident! i just wanted to put them all together).
i think the dante fights are all about inequality which is why it's so great that magna got to beat him (and through, as some anons joked, socialism lol), and for zenon i think it was a question of moral dilemmas? or something? or priorities, or i forget, it's been a while. but that was my favorite spade fight! :D
