In Lalah's timeline Amuro killed Char instead of her, so she had a Newtype aneurysm and time traveled into the past, falling into a deep sleep within a time stasis while she subconsciously watched over Char during the One Year War, ensuring things went better for him this time around. Char isn't happy about it. He feels stifled by her presence and while he does want to protect her, Lalah's influence is incredibly destructive and he's willing to put her out of her misery to protect the rest of the world from the Zeknovas she causes. She's apparently commanding Shuji through the Red Gundam too, she's the voice "beyond the Gundam" because the Elmeth and the Red Gundam have the same Alpha Psycommu systems, and they're resonating, making the Red Gundam a kind of extension of the Elmeth.
